Default The Valentines Day Scramble

About a week and a half ago something strange started happening to me: really really hot guys started asking me out left and right.

I mean, literally, all over the place. It's been a string of Matts, Dans, Seans, Alex's, Sams, etc... constantly for the last week and a half.

I first attributed this to that I've been going out a lot more, lately. I'm usually somewhat of a homebody. I don't like crowds or really people, very much, for that matter. I'm certainly not a sociable or even particularily friendly person. But, I've been in one of my manic good moods lately, and I also attributed it to that.

But, then I was reminded that this upcoming weekend if Valentines Day.

Suddenly it sunk in what all the madness was about.

It was The Valentines Day Scramble. Everyones afraid of being alone on Valentines Day so they just reach out and grab whatevers available. A week later the entire city is a pile of bleeding, broken, heart.

No thank you, Sir. I want no part of this insanity.

I'd rather stay home with a bottle of booze and David Letterman. Lock the doors. Board up the windows. Disconnect the phone.

No candy heart, no chocolate roses, no love notes, or sweet nothings. No thank you.

I cancel Valentines Day.

Cheers,

Lost

Most first dates are based on superficial reasons. Either the way you look, or the fact that no one else is available, or the activity itself, or nothing better to do, or something they heard about you, or they are horny, or whatever. It takes time to get to know the real you. I say take what you can get and make the most out of it. If someone wants to go out with you just because it is Valentines Day, in my opinion, that is just as good as most reasons anyone is going to have for a first date.

Yea, but one week stands suck. The sex is never good and it always end with that sort of uncomfortable

"eh" feeling.

Also, for the rest of your memory you have to remember:

"Yea, I spent Valentines Day 2004 with... uh... whatshisface..."

And when you can't remember you'll feel like an ass for having a one week stand with someone whose name you can't even remember.

Cheers,

Once you have the date, it is up to you to make something out of it. That is true for all first dates. Maybe for you it is normal for guys to want long term right away except for on v-day, but for me, I usually have to be on my toes till they get to know me better. I'll take the first date any way I can get it and play the cards I was dealt the best I can. Yeah, one week flings suck, but I would take the "better to have loved and lost" farther and say "better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all." I may have more experience dealing with rejection and failure than you though.

Lost, I hate to break it to you, but I think you might have rejected some guys who generally wanted to date you.

Honestly, since when do guys plan that far in advance?

Given some of the tales she tells of her home city, a guy thinking two weeks in advance doesn't seem so strange.

I haven't rejected anyone.

I'm just putting all dates off until the week after.

I figure that'll weed out the guys who just want a date for Valentines Day and leave me with the guys who actually wanted to date me.

Cheers,

Isn't that Mother's Day? I know Mother's day was invented by greeting card companies.

That's why it falls on a certain day of the week, not an actual date.

My St Valentine's day survival kit.

1. Bottle of wine and a six pack.

2. Dark room no outside light.

3. Depressing music to set the mood. (coldplay)

4. Sandy does hollywood DVD

5. Bumper box of tissues.

Now your set for a sad lonely day of depressing masturbation.

i dont know how to respond to that post... i really dont. i cant imagine what my life would be like if my mind worked like that. i can understand some of the facts. valentines day is next week. guys asked you out. you turned them down. all of those things make sense as single statements. however, tying it all together makes no sense at all to me.

Schweeeeeeeeeet! Last night I pulled my biggest puppy-dog eyes and asked my ex to be my Valentine (due to a shortage of alternatives, and considering I'd prefer to spend money on him anyway)

... and he said NO, but then he laughed and said yes. A very nice thing for him to do I say, he knows how much I enjoy buying silly little gifts for special people.

Valentines Day won't suck quite so hard this year after all.

I HATE valentine's day. Death to it all. The plan is to get completely and utterly drunk, wander over to my friend's house, and spend the night sitting in a hottub drinking with many boys. The ultimate anti-valentines day party.
