I know this has nothing to do with sex and affection, but this issue is about the relationship with my friends and me so I'll just post it here. The thing is that I don't smoke, but both of my roomates and very close friends do. My neighbor also smokes and he hangs out around the house all the time. Whenever we're watching TV, playing cards, drinking, or just hanging out they are smoking. I can't stand the damn smoke. I feel like I'll die of cancer before any of them do. However it's not like I can ask them to stop smoking cause they won't do it and the apartment is as mine as both of my roomates so I can't just tell them to stop smoking in the house. I am really annoyed of this smoking crap and gotta come with a solution. What do u guys think I should tell them in order to stop torturing my lungs and health?

Tell them you went to the doctor and he said you have asthma.

Then you can ask them politely to smoke outside...Or at least open a window!

Get an air filter mask, and walk around with it on. It will piss them off, but it will get your point across, you don't like the smoke. Also, it isn't rude, it is similar to what they are doing, they want to smoke, you want to breath clean air, good trade.

Argh, such a tough situation with no easy solution, short of moving.

You can choose to be vocal and and confront them. This will likely lead to ongoing tension and discontent. Smokers do NOT like to hear that what they do is fucked up.

Or, you can purchase a HEPA room air filter. These things work great, actually. Some smaller models are less than $50. I know, it sucks to have to pay for this sort of thing, but sometimes such expenses are worth it.

Also, insist on keeping a window open when they smoke. This annoys smokers, especially in cold weather.

You can also be passive-aggressive and chuck their packs of smokes in the garbage when they aren't looking. This works only if you're short on conscience and good at lying.

The window thing is a good idea. Call it a compromise. Just make sure that if you do live someplace with cold weather in the winter, you let them know the compromise stands for all times and seasons. If smokers can manage outside in 20-degree weather, they can let in a cold breeze.

I wouldn't mind a little smoke. but this is something that goes on EVERY day. i mean right now I'm in my room and smell the damn smoke. the other day my nostrils started itching. arggggghhh i'm going nuts. I live in florida so the cold breeze thing won't do.

unless these guys are chain smoking like 3 packs a day, it sounds like you do mind a little smoke. hell, a buddy of mine had lung cancer and didnt bitch this much about people smoking.

Smoking feels so good for something that is so bad. If they won't open the window, just step outside whenever they light one up, cigarettes only smoke for usually 4-7 minutes. Unless they are chain smokers, then I dunno what you can do.

And a cold breeze won't stop them from smoking.

jus tell them to go outside when they wanna have a smoke becuase it making u feel sick they will end up feeling guilty and will smoke outside. Not all smokers are assholes and if there ur friends they should understand

If they DO know, and they just keep doing it anyway then there isn't much you can do besides find somewhere else to go because they're inconsiderate assholes.

If they don't know, then as kindly as you can just let them know how it effects you. If they're decent people then they will respect you and your desire to be healthy and they'll piss off outside to smoke their ciggies.

Doesn't really matter that it's as much their place as yours, that doesn't give them the right to subject you to a life-threatening substance.

First of all, did you know they were smokers before you decided to become roommates with them? If so, was smoking/not smoking in the apartment ever addressed? Foresight would have prevented this problem.
