Same as anyone else, so I can't really judge all gay people. It's pretty much on a person to person basis, but I have no problem with someone being gay.

I'd test the water before diving in, most people are pretty tolerant, but there are a few people out there who'd love to make your life a living hell.

Personally, I wouldn't reccomend coming out in your school. (especially not if your in Jr. High, most students are too immature)

Homosexuality can be a touchy subject with some people. Just be careful.

Personally, I'm indiffrent to the whole Gay thing. Be who you really are.

Truthfully, if you come out in school you're sure to find some people who will try and degrade you for it. Some people are really shitty, especially jr. high/high school aged.

But, then again, coming out could be the best thing for you. It could be such a wave of freedom knowing that you no longer have that secret inside you.

Your could also possibly really help other people in your school who are homosexual come out. given todays times, it's pretty much granted that their will be more than one homosexual in a school, and they are probably going through the same struggle and worries as you.

And personally, I am indifferent to gay/ straight. I dont really see how who someone is attracted to should make ANY difference in the kind of person they are. I just really hate bigots.

As said, be prepared to take alot of heat from coming out. Just one piece of advice, if your attracted to a guy, and he lets you no he's not intrested, leave him alone. Do not push it, that's a sure fire way to turn someone against gays.

You're going to catch some shit no matter what, but where do you live? That's going to make an enormous difference. Even if you just said what state (assuming the U.S.; otherwise, country), that would help immensely in giving you an idea of what to expect.

Pesonally I don't give a shit whos gay and whos not, but that's me. I've seen a shitload of homophobes on totse who aren't going to respond for fear of looking like a cunt, so basically by asking how people feel about this will only get non-homophobes to answer. Anyways, you said you were considering "coming out" in quotes like I have done. So are you gay inside or straight? Um.....anyway...good luck.

Are you male or female? That could make a big difference, most people accept lesbians before they will accept gay men. Either way, coming out in your school may be a bad idea, there's a lot of homophobes in the teenage bracket.

this is a tough call. if you're still in highschool, it really wouldn't be a great idea. it depends on first, how old you are/grade, and second the area you live in. for example, if you're in 9th grade, not many people would take kindly to it. if you're a senior, people might be a little more tolerant. if you live in texas, you'll get your ass kicked. if you live in vermont, you might be a little better off.

i personally couldn't care less if you're straight, gay, bi, or asexual for that matter. but there are a lot of narrow minded people...

I'm a girl who came out as a bisexual. Obviously people like me take a lot less heat than a gay guy, but it was still a hell of a lot because I'm in a small town and was in 7th grade at the time. It was mostly people I didn't know who were asses to me about it (I learned later that my friends would talk shit about me behind my back, though). I got pushed into lockers and shit like that. And some hate notes and stuff in my locker. Nothing too terrible. Mostly it was just people asking me why I would be like that. Kind of strange and annoying. But once everyone got used to it, people started being cool to me again. And a few people came out around the time I did and soon after. Some people say that had a bit of something to do with me. I fell a hell of a lot better now that I can speak casually about it. My friend Bobby is gay and a sophomore in this same town I'm in. He has yet to really come out to most people. He even has a girlfriend. Some people who have found out think ill of him for it. It's a pros and cons issue because you will have a lot of both. You just have to decide which side overwhelms.

It depends on what your school is like. I go to a school of the arts, so a lot of the kids are gay. (I don’t care if it’s a stereotype, it’s true) Gay kids are more popular than football players. Well...we don't have a football team. More popular than the hockey players!

But this is Toronto, and it's the second gayest city in the world, we have a pride parade every year, and we even have a "gay district." Our society is just accepting of it. What’s yours like, is the question?

I go to NYU. One of my queer friends put it quite simply: "Here, you're gay til proven straight."

If you live on the coasts, it shouldn't be much of a problem, or if you live in an urban area. Even in Texas, the cities are more tolerant.

hey now... i live near the pocono's...

this area isn't toooo bad when it comes to being tolerant. it could be worse. unfortunately, you're still in highschool, and in NEPA, highschool football is a way of life. that means that not only do jocks get a lot of attention, they also think they're greater than god. this means they don't get in trouble for ANYTHING. they'll make your life shit if they find out. it might go a little differently, but jocks tend to be homophobic, and this area has uberjocks.

best advice would be not to come out... yet. give it a little while, till you're a junior or senior. that way, even if some jocks give you shit, not all of them can because you'll be an upperclassman.

"Coming Out" is a con in my book. Why should you have to "come out" if you feel comfortable with your sexuality, and if you dont thats your problem whether or not anyone cares or not shouldn't be your concern.

Doing such actions at school furthers not only a liberal ideology but is asking for attention and I call that "Attention Whoring".

Why would you want your fucking school or work place for that matter to know your gay?

I dont go around telling people I am straight and I dont need to let it be known just as gay people dont either.

Don't do anything stupid like wear a rainbow, that will make people WANT to hate you. Just be yourself, don't go with the whole 'comming out' thing, as you be yourself, people will notice and when they ask "are you gay?" just say... yes.

LSA King brings up a good point (though in a stupid assholey way). The rainbow thing is dumb. When I said that I came out, what I meant is that when people asked if I liked the ladies, I said (and say) yes. None of this "guess what, I'm queer" bullshit. I hate anyone who does that because it's like they think everyone should be amazed at their sexuality. Just talk about it casually ("Brad Pitt is hot") and people will get the idea
