"virgin" is defined as a person that has never experienced sexual intercourse and "sexual intercourse" is defined as the insertion of the penis into the vagina. so technically, a nun would still be a virgin if she had anal penetration.

I read that in Sparta, while the guys were off training to fight they were assigned to an older man who would have anal sex with the younger guy, while the women were at home handleing all the important stuff. The women were encouraged to engage in sexual acts with one another. When a man and a woman were going to get married, for several weeks she would go into a dark room, and the man would go in and have sex with her, to become more comfortable having sex than with a man.

I'm not sure on the validity of any of that, but I read it and saw it on television too.
