Women:unromantic?
I think all us guys know how women seem to always go on about "romance" and how they like a guy to be romantic, but i thought-when are women ever romantic? Can any guy here honestly say that a girlfriend has ever done anything romantic for them?
N.B. Wearing sexy lingerie and/or cooking a meal doesn't count as romantic.

Re: Women:unromantic?
My girlfriend spread rose petals all over the house, then lit the hallways and stairs with candles. She left me short, sexy letters, leading me to the upstairs bedroom... When I got there, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
So, maybe you just get the wrong girls?

Re: Women:unromantic?
But seriously, if she did that for me, she knows what my reaction would be.
Most guys just aren't into that shit.
So when my girl wants to something nice for me, she makes me a sandwich. She like's romance, I like turkey. It's a delicate balance.

Re: Women:unromantic?
Define what you mean by romantic. I visited a website recently (argh, can't remember what it was, I'm not on my own computer!) that showed an image of a "woman's idea of romantic" (romance-novel art with dashing handsome man embracing blushing woman) and a "guy's idea of romantic" (a teenage couple at a dance, and the guy had his hand in her panties.) I thought that was a rather accurate depiction.
In my experience, as Nocuous said, guys just don't appreciate that stuff. They see I spent money on silly stuff, and say something like, "Next time just give me the money so I can buy a video card." Meh.
These days I spend a good 2-3 hours preparing dinner almost every day (everything homemade, nothing from a can or box, including baking bread.) I wake up early with him to make breakfast. I pack a lunch for him to take. I essentially take care of all the menial tasks so he has more time to attend to his work and studies. I'm pretty sure this makes my guy happy.

Some chicks do romantic things, some don't. Personally, I enjoy romantic gestures every once in awhile--especially when they involve passionate love-making.

Re: Women:unromantic?
i dont see women doing anything i would consider romantic. however, i know they dont have a clue as to what i find "romantic" so i dont get all retarded about them not doing it. if i depended on female actions making me happy, id be one disappointed person. instead i let them do whatever stupid ass shit they feel like doing and entertain myself with them. its slightly more work but its way more rewarding.

Re: Women:unromantic?
...hmmm romantic. I'd say I'm very romantic.
I'll name off a few things, you can tell me if you think it counts as romance.
For my highschool sweetheart's 18th I took off two class periods and covered his truck (which was parked in the senior's parking lot at school) with plastic wrap, TP, streamers, helium balloons, the works and had nearly the whole damn highschool sign a Happy Birthday banner for him...
And every day, after school, on my way to work I would stop by his truck to leave a small love note or lovey dovey card on his window.
For my college sweetheart's 21st I drove 2 hours to his house (without him knowing I was going to visit) and left a trail of 1 red rose, tied to 1 helium balloon, sitting on one birthday card (so in total 21 Happy Birthday cards, 21 red roses, and 21 balloons) from his front door back to his bedroom, where I was waiting with a stack of presents.
Am I getting close?
Well, with my ex fiance I used to take hundereds of photos of myself and make videos (mostly pornographic) to send to him because we were 6000 miles appart. I also stayed up most of the night, nearly every night for about a year, just to spend time talking with him... I wrote hundereds of erotic stories about the two of us, and also sent lots of naughty little cards through the post.
Before we even started going out I arranged to have a dozen red roses delivered to him on Valentines Day, especially tricky since I was in the US and was ordering them to be delivered here in New Zealand. God was he surprised. First time he ever got anything like that from a girl.
When he finally arrived in the states and we met for the first time, I had decorated our hotel room with a bunch of candles...
For the first birthday he had after we met I shipped a 50lb box of gifts over to him, including a brand new Seagate Baracuda 80GB HDD (if that ain't romance, I dunno what is!)
Even though our relationship has now ended I still do 'romantic' things for him. If he's working nights I either make him a nice dinner and walk it over to him, or go and pick up his favorite take-out and drop it by the office. I still cook for him, and make the special effort of picking out the foods I know he particularly enjoys. I also pay attention to when he acts sore, and offer him massages (I have strong hands for a chick)
Anyway, that's romance to me. Going out of your way to take good care of someone and give them as much happiness as you can.

Re: Women:unromantic?
Generally speaking, romance is something that is expected to come from men, yet to be appreciated most by women.
The romanticism of men goes far beyond silly things like flowers. Without romanticism, the Roman Empire would not have been, there would have been no Napolean or Third Reich, Bush and his cronies would not want to rule the world, there would be no flag on the Moon.
It is up to men to do the dirty work that makes romanticism possible; all women have to do is sit back and enjoy it (and spread their legs).

Stay away from my truck. The banner is cool. My birthday last year some kids I know in a younger grade made me a banner than spanned an entire hallway. It was cool until people ripped it trying to get in their locker. I also made like 50 people wear hats.

Thats sweet. My girlfriend does stuff like that for me. I actually love it, Ive saved them all.

Creative, Ill give you that. But once it was all done with, you know he was just thinking Great. Now Ive gotta have 21 roses in my room until theyre dead. And maybe even after

Again, guys arent in to the flower thing. I did landscaping for three years, and I wont lie, I have a bit of a passion for gardening. But Id take a sandwich over roses any day.

chicks and flowers. Guys just dont get it.

Not as good as the videos, but I like it!

Any girl who can cook is a keeper in my books!
But see this is what I meant by typical romantic things such as flowers and candles, pretty gowns, and star lit walks having different effects on girls than guys.

So you think true romanticism is killing and conquest? hmmm...
I think guys are romantic in different ways, but some things, like scenery, are mutual.

Re: Women:unromantic?
I'm a manly man (oh sure, that it is) & when
I have time, I stop & smell the roses. It has
always made me wonder that people actually
like these mass produced flowers. They may
look passable but have no smell or decent
aphids.
I'd rather have a voman pick rose petals &
make rose-petal jelly, anyday.
Let us look down your tops, long after we've
seen you topless.

Re: Women:unromantic?
I agree noc, most guys don't give two shits about flowers, that's why I never gave any to my highschool sweetheart. He was a macho fella like you and he wouldn't have known what the hell to do with flowers.
But the other two, well the college boy... he was into all the traditional romance crap, and he really loved flowers. He wasn't a fag, he was just different I guess.
And Ben, well when he heard stories about the things I had done for Elmer he was pretty amazed. He told me he had never had a girlfriend that did things like that for him, and thought he really might like it. We weren't really 'together' when I sent the roses, so it was a bit of a deal-closer I guess, my way of saying "Hey, I really love you!" and it worked quite well. The candles... I think that was my attempt at being a typical girl... I didn't even find it that romantic.
Now I do romantic things like getting the beers for him and his mates. Heh.
So you see, I've adjusted my approach to romance for each guy and their individual needs. That is true romance.

It may be hard for some to understand, but killing, conquest and the pursuit of power does have a sexually romantic element on an implicit unconscious level.

True.. although, strong hands are a close second.
And there ain't nothin wrong with candles if they smell good.
As far as all that shit you did.. you can tell just between nocuous and I that you really do have to adjust based on who you're with. I think all of it is pretty cool (even though I'm not into flowers, it's the thought that counts, so getting them once or twice isn't a bad thing at all), but I could do without the cards on the windshield. It's not so much the cards as the fact it was being done every day. I, personally, prefer thought to thoughtfulness, so I'd be happier with something ub3r-l337 and different every once in a great while than the same thing, even a very sweet same thing, constantly.
The only thing like this I've ever had the opportunity to do for someone was when I had a long-distance girlfriend. For her birthday, I made cupcakes (ok, mainly my mom did, I can only cook pizza, burgers, and hot dogs and have them come out right, but I tried), lit them all with candles, took pictures, had them put on a CD (no digital, this was like five years ago), and e-mailed her all of them.
*blink* I just talked about myself? Damn you Sarc.. *waggles fist*

Maybe in Hollywood films and in books, but I'm sure if you were there that you would change your mind about it...

Re: Women:unromantic?
Hmm. Well, I generally consider myself a romantic person. But nothing extreme. Roses every once in a while for no real reason.
And then last Valentines Day I got one of my friends who worked in the kitchen of a four star restaurant to come over and make a nice home made dinner. I set up a nice little candlelit dinner- even had a table cloth. Played the romantic music and hung icicle lights. Then I passed the cooking off as my own. It was great.
And as far as violence and romance, go. Well. I've done that once or twice before. (I mean defending her, not domestic.)
Other than that, I generally consider sitting through a fucking hour of Sex and the City at least 20 times in the last year pretty goddamn romantic!
