Any suggestions?
I work a full-time job, make more than enough money to get by.. but really have little social interaction at my job.... sooooo... I'm considering taking a (2nd) part-time job to fill that gap, I'm just not much into the bar scene, I'm 45.
I was just looking for suggestions on what type of job might fit into what I'm trying to accomplish.. or even a non-job situation that would put me into the social setting I'm looking for. Thanks.

Re: Any suggestions?
You could be a cab driver. They must meet all sorts of people. But really it depends on what type of people you're trying to meet. I like the bar tender idea since it isn't really the "bar scene." Would that work?
And why does it have to be a job? You could join a club or organization and meet people who share interests with you. Joining a gym comes to mind. That seems to be a place to meet people now-a-days.

Re: Any suggestions?
That's an interesting strategy... find a job to increase your social life..... are you sure about that?
There just must be a better way, once you do increase your social circle you're going to have to quit that job just to fit it all in and still have time for yourself.
What other ideas have you explored?

Re: Any suggestions?
I'm trying to look at it from a 45yo perspective... but I didn't have much of a social life when I was a teenager and I sure as hell don't have one now so it's like the blind inspiring the deaf here.
What I do know though, avoid churches. Lots of single fellas get desperate and try going to church groups to meet people... church groups are packed with single women... single women that go to church groups are like a pack of hungry wolves! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, STAY AWAY!

Re: Any suggestions?
Thanks people...
Bartender.. not a bad idea...
Cab Driver.. c'mon noc, I live in Dallas..lol, they'd just as soon shoot ya as pay ya...
Church.. I'm pretty sure I'd burst into flames if I stepped a foot inside one...
Porn.. I rather like that idea, but probably isn't a big demand for 45 y.o. porn stars...

Amatuer films? I'm sure it's a niche market...

Re: Any suggestions?
Part time hospital work: transport (internal, meaning you wheel people around on stretchers and wheelchairs) or medical records. A high percentage of non-medical (doctor/nurse) jobs are held by females.
Selling women's shoes, either in a shoe store or shoe department of a department store. Try not to be one of those creepy guys with a foot fetish.
Public library. Nice work if you can get it.
'tis all I can think of off the top of my head!

Re: Any suggestions?
^^^ I like the hospital idea dc... but I've got a history of manuf. controlled substances... might that preclude me? And what about the shoe salesman.. it's not like I'd be draping a leg over each shoulder to 'fit them'... although an interesting technique, is that what you mean by creepy?
Ducky, I like the way you think...

Pimp: meet new people, make good money, dress like a Christmas tree.
Hitman: kill new people, make good money, dress like a moron.

Re: Any suggestions?
I have lived around tennis clubs for the most of my life, and I have seen many single older folks get together through tennis. If you go to a tennis club (don't go to the Y or the local gym, find an actual tennis club or a country club...ive never been to Dallas, but I'm sure there must be a couple)
Try going to a wine or beer tasting or one of those cigar stores with a fancy name. I'm not sure that they are the people you type of people you want to meet, but there are plenty of them.
Good old volunteer work. If you build stuff go for habitat for humanity. If you are good with kids, become a mentor or a kids coach and you will meet all the parents/ other coaches/mentors. You will meet a lot of people volunteering, and you get the added bonus of that warm - fuzzy feeling.
Cindy's idea about the hospital is a really good one. There are many women working throughout the hospital. The issue of your history would probably stop you from a transport job etc, but you should have no trouble getting a book keeping type job. The library or a bookstore/coffee shop would be an awesome place to meet smart ladies. But the shoe store is so Al Bundy a la Married with Children.

Re: Any suggestions?
bookstore/coffeeshop. were almost the same age, so yea, if i was single, that would probably be a place i would hang out/go to regularly. the only problem i see with the hospital idea is that there tends to be a clique thing going on with most of the staff usually. how about part-timing grocery clerk? or try the womans apparel section of a big department store(j.c. pennys, or sears) i havent been to dallas, but i know in san antonio, a good one would be any of the clothing stores. you want just a regular woman about your age, thats not just plain or one with a lot of baggage right? hope this helps a little bit.

Re: Any suggestions?
I wouldn't be opposed to doing volunteer work, kind of could set my own hours since it's free. Not sure where to look but it's a good idea.
Tons of book stores around Dallas, another good idea whether just hanging out or part time help. Imagine that, meeting someone that reads..lol
Not trying to bump this thread back to life, just wanted to say thanks for the ideas/replies.
