I had unprotected sex saturday night and I've heard a pregnancy test can only tell you your pregnant in the first month just before your next period is due.

...at least that's what it is for 1 of the doctor tests (it should say on the package). I should really know more about this, considering me and my ex had like 4 scares.

These days they're pretty quick to detect pregnancy. I'm thinking even after 48 hours from conception, but I may have pulled that out of my ass.

Go to the drugstore and read some labels. Or Google for EPT's website, or other pregnancy test websites.

You might want to run to the doctors and get the morning after pill. They work up to 72 hours after the fact, and in your case its better than nothing.

BTW, why is it that so many people in this post have been in this situation?

When it happened to me (well, actually my g/f), we were lucky because

a) She turned out not to be pregnant, and

b) If she had been, there is an abortion clinic about half an hour's walk from me, so we could have said we were going to see a movie, go there, get it done, and no-one the wiser. (In Canada, abortions are covered by our socialist health policy.)

While "fertilisation" may technically be a correct variation (though I doubt the poster intended it to be so) it is by no means the Americanized version. Or the version used by anyone with a firm grasp of standardized english.

Actually, that 'variation' was in fact first used in the US, and originated there. I would consider that this means that it originated there.

Most of the fairly recent dictionaries in my house seem to state that both are universally accepted.(Macquarie, Oxford, Collins)

A Webster's only has the 'z' version, and so I use to assume that was the American variation.

However, I've heard differing accounts from lots of people, and both my linguistics textbooks are inconclusive, so I guess it's a matter of live and let live.

Personally, I use the s. Matches the noun form of most other words (like criticism)

Standard English is too general a term.

Sigh, to get back to the original question...

two weeks. Minimum for the pee test. Buy three and do all three because they are unreliable to say the least.

There is a blood test which i think is reliable after 1 week. A very pro ultrasound operator might detect it after 2 weeks.

Morning after pill: within 72 hrs, from pharmacy, or take 4 of normal birth control, 2, 12 hours apart i think is how it's done.
