Depression
For the last year, (Except for a small break in between), I have been depressed.
It originally started around the time I broke my arm. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but right around there, everything went to the shit pit. I trudged through school everyday, putting on a happy face, pretending to be happy, so my friends wouldn't ask me. I didn't do anything. I was depressed, and if fucking sucked. All I was thinking was "Oh, summer will make everything better".
Near the end, I was right, for about a month, I wasn't depressed. I was happy. And then, summer struck, and everything went to the shit pit. Then I was sure everything would get better during school. But it didn't.
I don't know why I'm saying this, I'm not asking for sympathy, and not expecting any get well quick ideas. I just wanted to say this, because I haven't, in a year.
Note: If you think I don't have a reason to be depressed, you've never been depressed.
And this may or may not be the wrong forum, I just don't want to put this in SG.

Re: Depression
Everybody is in some form of depression, some worse than others. Back in April when my sister died I almost hit the bottom(suicide). It sucks but I got over it by jamming it deep, deep down. I'm letting it eat away at me until I blow up in a shooting rampage and murder hundreds. Just do what I do.

Re: Depression
Yes, everyone goes through ups and downs. Unless you feel that you actually have "clinical depression" that keeps you from being a functioning person in day-to-day life, then you just have the "blues" or are "bummed" or "in the dumps".
I've found that to deal with it, rather than try to cheer myself up I try and listen. Sometimes if its bad, I might even lie in bed and try to feel more bummed - because at some point you hit the bottom and bounce back up.
Make sure of a few things:
1. Diet - if you don't have a well-balanced diet, it can affect your moods.
2. Drugs - obviously fun sometimes, but can affect mood swings.
3. Exercise - a little bit of moving around can really change your outlook.
4. Don't beat yourself up if you have down periods. Everyone has them.
5. Take a multi-vitamin everyday, or at least often. Especially if you start to feel bummed. You could have a vitamin deficiency.
Take care,

That helps a lot!
But during my last weeks of higshool, I stopped (so damn buisy & grad), and sometime in the summer, I went off my medication. I should start working out again, because my anxiety is coming back.
I have had depression for 3 long years (took medication for 2 years) , and I don't think ill recover for a long time. But there are ways to manage, and working out helps.
ScreamOfDeath, although you think this might suck major.....it could be a LOT worse. At least you don't have to deal with "Depression related illness" which I had, that really fucks you up. Also dealing with having to take medication is a real pain, and side effects, as well as withdrawl.

Re: Depression
For children, depression is often caused by environmental factors, including family.
For teenagers, the above applies, plus issues of identity, independence, social acceptance, and chemical/hormonal activity. Dreadful.
For adults, the above applies, plus issues of finance, personal success, marriage, politics...ad nauseum.
Where do you fit?
It's hard to rule out brain chemical imbalances because most "mental health professionals" are idiots. Theyll put you on medication, by default.
Most folks want a "better answer" than this, but increasing physical activity and improving diet have a LOT to do with mental health. If I don't get my heart rate up for a sustained period of time every day, I will feel "down in the dumps" and "mopey." If I'm ill and can't work out for a prolonged period, that is very bad for me. I'll start staring at the walls and sleeping most of the day. The occurance of depression among athletes and those in the field of physical fitness is jarringly low.
Depression can be a crappy cycle. Hope you find what you need to get out of it.

It actully sounds like your in the Depression stage of bi-polar. It could last months (mine has). Being in the "pit" (or the point where you couldint give a fuck and would just love to die, but dont have the balls to do it.) for 3 months sucks fuckin cock. Nothing can bring you out, you act like a little bitch, and your sex life might as well left the face of the planet (my ex could have told you that). I think the only thing that kept me from bleeding my life away was her... She stood with me, even when i put the blade in her hand and asked her to do it for me. If your feeling like i was for those 3 months, it really helps to have someone that cares about you thats outside your family.
I like my manic stages, my guitar playing & creativity go sky high, sleep is a thing in the past, your self esteem is higher than god, and your sex life seems to come back as good as it was, if not better. My Manic stages fuckin rule.
Regardless of what people believe, there is no middle ground with bi polar, theres mild manic activity and mild depression, u'll know when one of those kicks in. I havent had a depessed episode for about a month, i've been midly manic and mildy depressed, but i can controll that so it doesint go into stages. It usally takes an outside stimuli to make me go into an episode.
Oh damn, i better stop rambling...

Re: Depression
Gah. Depression is a tricky thing. I really thought I was done with being depressed a few months ago. I thought I had everything figured out and I would never get depressed again. Well, I guess I was wrong. I'm not sure if I'm really depressed now or what I am. It's not like I feel hopeless and want to die all the time. I usually just feel apathetic. Like someone could shoot me and I wouldn't care. But a few times a day, I just sit there and think about how to kill myself. And then about once a day I seriously think about doing it. It's kind of weird. I don't know what to do. My diet and exercise is seriously shitty right now. I eat compulsively. I'm not gaining much weight (which is good because it would totally kill me if I got fat) but I do eat myself sick sometimes. Right, I'm just venting. Ignore this if you wish.

Re: Depression
Depression fucking sucks. I've had it for maybe...3 years, with various "happy" stages throughout there...Nothing is worse than getting dumped while you're depressed...I'm guessing I'm clinically depressed, or maybe Bi-polar, but I'm miserable all the time outside of when I'm talking to my friends...Thoughts of suicide pop up constantly.
Depression does make you see things as they really are...Which definintly leads to more depression. I refuse to take meds, or go to the doctors, so my life will continue its downward spiral for a long, long time. All my grades in school suffer so much because of it...Ah well...
I was just dumped today, actually, so my bitching is slightly justified...
