Well I'm more interested in the girls opinions (only because I want to know a womans view on the subject) but all are welcome.

There is this girl that I like, well I haven't talked to her for a good 4 months. The question is will it seem weird to her to hear from me out of the blue? I'm shipping out for the military soon and I would like to be able to write her and maintain a friendship. I imagine it would be nice to hear from an old friend. The only reason why it may seem weird in anyway is because she knew I was head over heels for her. I never directly told her but she knew and she also had a boyfriend however I respected that (keeping things on a friendship level). Actually I think she liked me a little more than as a friend but I was never really sure.

I've known her for 2 years and was good friends with her also.

I'm just a stupid man so come on what do you think? After rereading I guess it wouldn't be weird and I'm just being dumb. Regardless I want opinions.

I don't think she'll think it's weird that you want to contact her before you get shipped out, actually I think it's rather sweet. Plus, this way you can build on a relationship with her where you can get to know the whole person (writing brings certain characteristics out).

Go for it. Like both the people above me have said. The fear of never knowing is greater than the fear of failing.

On another note. What branch are you going into? I'm just curious because I leave on Oct 27th for the Marine Corps. That is another thing also. All of the guys/girls that I have talked to that came back from boot camp said that getting letters from family and friends made it so much easier. So ya definately get her address and at least correspond with her. You never know what could happen. Well good luck with everything.

this isn't necessarily death or glory. it's actually a win/win situation. as long as you don't propose in the first letter. she'll be flattered even if she has a bloke at the moment. play the long game, everyone loves getting mail. plus you have the cache of being unavailable. worst case scenario you have a friend writing you when you're away.

HKW: I am going into the Army with the Option 40 Contract (Ranger Contract). So I'll be away for almost 6 months training (Basic/Airborne/Ranger School).

You guys don't even want to hear about missed chances... this is more like now or never deal. I feel once I'm shipped out I'll never see her again if I don't do it. That would really suck, even if we don't become a couple (which I'm not looking for but I would sure as hell love, I think there is a chance though) I want to be her friend.
