Why is oral sex considered a stepping stone to fucking?

This implies that the actual act of intercourse is somehow more "advanced." I'm not so sure it is.

Oral sex is far more intimate. There are many more sights, sounds, flavors and aromas involved in oral sex. Most guys, depending on mood and level of inebriation, seem willing to tolerate lower standards and are likely to just fuck a girl they'd never consider eating out. Yet oral sex is seen as "tamer" than intercourse, or "more acceptable" or "ok if we do this, as long as it goes no further."

After good oral sex, fucking can seem downright anticlimatic.

So maybe everyone should just fuck first, get it out of the way, and move up to the oral.

Ponder this, and post your thoughts, please.

I agree, the two really aren't related in the sense that people think.

Intercourse can be more romantic and "less dirty" than oral sex. Oral sex is hard to view in a romantic light, it always seems like a dirty sex act.

But then again the act of vaginal sex also carries more responsibility and consequence than oral sex. Vaginal sex can cause pregnancy (obviously) and oral the sex the only risk you run is either an STI (but someone ought to be a bit smarter than that and not put his/her mouth on something w/ big open sores on it or the like) or a bad taste in your mouth.

I'm one of those people who has always believed that oral sex wasn't as big of a deal as intercourse... but I realize it makes very little sense to look at it that way. Somehow against my logic it's been programmed into me...

You're totaly right, you can't get much more intimate than letting someone stick their face in your crotch... it takes a lot of trust and self-confidence to give and receive oral pleasures.

My guy had sex with his first long-term girlfriend, but didn't go down on a girl until his second girlfriend... that always seemed backwards to me, but when you think about it...

It probably has a lot to do with what we're told as kids... the guidance offered regarding sex is often simplified to "as long as you don't put yours in hers you'll be fine" but they don't approach oral sex openly... I guess it's taboo?

They give us all the info on sex, babies, diseases, ect... but I don't ever remember being told about oral sex... maybe they don't make a big fuss about oral since it doesn't carry the risk of pregnancy?

i would rather have and give really good oral. it is such a ground shaker. when realy good...i have never really understood why alot find oral taboo ? intercourse is great but it does not have the power of great oral

I think the idea that oral is somewhat less than sex starts when we are kids. The idea of "bases" and how far have you gone makes sex the holy grail for young people. Teens not willing to "go all the way" but wishing to experiment or please a significant other often will try oral. When we become adults, it is different. If you get one, you normally get the other unless you run into one of "those" that just does not like oral. I have yet to run into a 25 year old that was willing to give head but did not want me to "go all the way."

In theory, you should be right. But there's a certain something you get with intercourse that can't be duplicated by oral sex. It's more.. intimate, I suppose would be the right word. It's not necessarily better in terms of pure pleasure, but it's.. I don't know. I'm not sure how to describe it.

It could be that I've simply accepted the general philosophy on this and had no reason to think otherwise, who knows. But I think it has more to do with the fact that oral sex involves one person acting for the pleasure of the other, whereas intercourse involves two people trying to pleasure each other simultaneously (or at least, that's how it should be). To me, that's where it's at.

Hm. I was surprised to read most of these responses. I always kind of thought of oral to be much more intimate than fucking. Fucking is just genital-to-genital. You can fuck someone and not even see her pussy. Oral also requires more care to be put into it. Fucking is more about getting yourself off than the other person.

Yes...intercourse "at least" has the goal of "procreation" whereas oral has no purpose but pleasure.

I see your point. However, two people can have intercourse without once touching (with hands) smelling or tasting the other's genitalia, which to me is FAR more intimate than inserting a "remote" body part into another. But I see what you're getting at.

Right you are, Glitter, that's exactly what I was thinking. I don't understand why sex is considered so intimate. Oral sex can be completely dirty and just about getting off, but fucking is more that way. Oral sex and kissing are, in my opinion, two of the most intimate things people can share, depending on the situation. Sex is just sex.

Isn't oral sex another of those 'go to hell' things from that great literary classic, the bible?

I find the thought of both giving and receiving oral sex far more alluring than that of intercourse, I'm not sure why, though.

It must be a personal choice thing. The element of trust is, of course, immensely important too.
