Default Over 18 to know what love is?

Im 15, does that mean I dont know anything?

I was never one for the settle down with one guy thing, i was always one guy and one on the side, but i met this lad who changed all that for me and i love him so much i dnt wanna live like that, i just want him.

Trying to explain this to friend, parents and teachers doesnt work because all we get is;

"Your 15, you don't know what love is!"

What are you opinons?

I agree. people know what love is as soon as they are consciously intelligent(about 3).

I'm young, I'm in love. You can love somebody at any age. Other people are just jealous to tell you otherwise.

you won't know if you were really in love for another couple years. then you can look back and tell if you were in love or just in kiddy-love.

What the old folks mean by "you don't know what love is" is that you've still got room to grow. In a few years you'll be a completely different person. It is unlikely you and your loved one at age 15 will still have much in common at age 18, or 21, or so. As you further develop your identities in the world, chances are you will develop different interests. Love isn't enough to make that situation work.

Then again, at my 10-year high school reunion, there were at least 3 sets of happily married high school sweethearts, so it happens.

yes, yes, very tru. i think as long as you have a grasp of understand, you can cognazise what love is. im *truly* in love now, but everyone tells me "no, youre only 17, you dont know what REAL love is." no, i beg to differ. i dont use 'love' lightly, and ive only ever *truly* loved 1 person.

so yeah, i hear ya. i think you can understand love at 15...

Do your own thing...

People change constantly...Like a few years back I would only look at girls my age...Now I will go for anything legal!

All this "you don't know what love is" crap is just their way of saying "sooner or later you're going to change your views and perspectives and find out love is something else entirely!"

We're not deniying that this could end in a week/month, and yeah we know that we can change and so on but the fact of the matter is, that happens if ur in love at like 20 or 30 or 40!

Everyone at schools all like "your so lame u guys been together for years and u still aint had sex" and thats cus we know theres more to a relationship than sex, unlike most teens who do it cus its "cool"

I find it highly unfair,I know that if I asked my parents if he could sleep ova and they would be all "NO WAY! Im not havin grand kids at my age" and then id try and explain that i just wanna go 2sleep in the arms of the guy i love and wake up to find him still there, u know? but i can even say that cus ive been shouted down before the first word and told to go up stairs!

Dont u find that unfair?

Whoever tries to put an age limit on love is a goddamn nazi, or at least they've never had that warmth in the middle of the cold. Or theyve never had a girl like I have. And if your willing to suffer for that person, and your willing to give your life in exchange for theirs, then my friends, you know damn well what love is. And if they would do the same for you, you have something special. No one can tell you what it is, and no one can exactly describe it. But only you really know if it is or not. I know I love my girl, and if it was my life or hers, I would gladly lay my life down with a smile. When youd do that for a person, it is love in my opinion.

I know what you mean, a while back my mom was having the sex talk with me (a day after the first time I got head) and she said that me and my girlfriend are both too young to know what love is and that means we shouldn't have sex yet because we aren't ready. She told me we weren't ready to have sex, I mean how fucked up is that. But anyways two weeks ago my girl came camping with me but we couldn't sleep together so we wouldn't have sex. Well to make a long story short we ended up laying under the stars for more than two hours completely alone and more than a hundred yards away from anyone else. So much for our forced celibacy. Maybe it's just that my dad is divorced and knows what it's like to not get to see the one you love much and so much is built up when you finally do spend time together that it's kind of impossible to stop anything from happening.

no, im sorry to be cynical, but there is no way in hell that you know what love is. yea, you're in love. for a month or two, before you get bored.

you can talk about love when you can easily say that you never want to be with another peoson in your life. you can say you're in love when you would drive 4 hours every weekend to see them for 2 days. you can say you're in love when older, wiser, and have more experience with the subject. if this is your 'first true love', then it's probably not love, just comfort and infatuation, with some sex thrown in.

hell, im 18, have been dating a girl for a year, and have done anything i could just to make her happy, and im in love. but when im 30, i'm sure i'll have more of an insight into love. when you're young, you can't know what love is, it just doesn't happen that way. you have to learn what love is, with time and experience.

it's really arrogant to think that you know better than your parents what love is and how it feels to love. your parents know more about love than you will in the next 10 years. you should take that as true and believe them when they say that you don't know what love is.

Children, most of all, know the true meaning of love... there is nothing more pure and simple than a child's love.

The challenges that younger people face (age 15-20) is dealing with hormones, emotions, morals, and priorities.

Don't let ANYONE tell you that just because you're young you don't know what love is... but at the same time, realize that you may not fully grasp the other dynamics of a relationship... no matter how much you love someone, it still takes a LOT of hard work, cooperation, and commitment to have a successful relationship. On top of everything else you're experiencing as a teenager it can be damn near impossible, you just do your best, and learn from everything.

When people say "you're too young to know what love is!" Just tell them "No, I'm just too young to understand the other bullshit that you adults add to it!"

I think that you watch way to many fucking romance movies.

I don't think the wisdom of a 15 year old can contimplate what love is. Wow you like a guy alot and you've been together awhile.

That's not a big deal, a 15 year old can be intelligent but intelligence doesn't mean you can grasp every concept. Sometimes it takes loss to realize what you had or didn't have.

I doubt you are really in love, and if this is those 1 in a billion cases of romeo and juliet then I congragulate you, but for now spare the bullshit about waking up in his arms because its just sickening.

Your 15, and your trying to act like your a married couple with their own house and own lives.

I'm 16, and I know exactly what love is. Love is an illusion drummed up in people's minds to give them security. It's a word people throw around in thinking that it actually exists. The truth is that love is a lie.

You know you're in love when you're in love. But loving someone and being in love with them are two completely, entirely different things. You love someone when you spend a lot of time with them and you just generally like them a lot, but not really "that way". You're in love with someone if you talk to them on the phone and say absolutely nothing. When you call them just to hear them say "hey, whats up", and stay on the line for hours not saying anything in particular. When you think about them constantly either in the front of your thoughts or even in the back, but they're constantly there. That's when you're in love.

Ah, good feeling it is

But very, very bad feeling when it's gone

well, i brought this up in a few classes in school today. most specifically AP lit. my teacher gave me the most useful; insight i've heard yet.

"you don't know what love is until you have children, then it's like opening a whole new world."

i think she's right. you may love a partner, but that's nothing compared to the love a parent has for their child. if you ask me, that's the epitome of love.

BTW, i love it when people hate me. i've got like 3 or 4 people here who think im a total prick, it's great.

Time is the testament of love. If you want parents respect to your "love" try dating for a few years. Statistically most teenage relationships break up with-in a year (according to my own experience).

I've been with the same girl for three years. We met when we were 15 (I'm 19 now), I think, and as far as I know I'm in love. Does this mean I think I know everything there is to know about love, no. But I have allot better idea now then I did 4 years ago.

I'm sure I'll marry her, but not until shes a sophmore in college. To me, getting married early is one of the mistakes too many young people make too early. I've seen allot of my friends propose to girls after dating them for less than half the time I've been with mine. Call me old fassioned, but I firmly belive that love at first sight is a myth. It takes time to know who, and what you want.

Pfft, it's arrogant for ANYONE to say that they understand love... love is completely incomprehensible... just when you think you get it, it dumbfounds you again.

Younger people have trouble with relationships, not love. It's easy to love when you're young and naive and your heart hasn't been destroyed 100 times... it's VERY difficult to be successful in relationships when you're young, you need lots of experience for that.

im sorry, but i really disagree. i don't think it is easy for young people to love. i mean, not in a really strong way. love grows with time, and i think that you need the experience to really LOVE.

i mean, i might love my girlfriend more than any other girl i've known before, but that's not to say that i'll never love anyone more. right now this feels like love, but someday, i might meet somone and be so struck that i realize that as much as i care about jenna, what i feel for the new girl blows it out of the water.

do you know what i mean? its hard to get it across. i would be hard pressed to find someone who loves their girlfriend enough to be with them through anything. i mean, i know older people who've gone through things that i could never go through with anyone i know yet. if your boyfriend or girlfriend was paralyzed today, would you honestly stay with them? go through all the hospitals, treatments, pain, etc?

i know older couples who would do it in a heartbeat, but i don't know if i could. do you see my point?

I do see your point, but I believe it has nothing to do with age... rather opportunity, and timing play a large role.

Who is to say that had I started a relationship with my first crush (who I loved in every sense of the word) when I was 14 that I would not still be in that relationship today, and still love him just as much? It is entirely possible... It does happen.

Yes, you love different people to different extents... Your "true love" may come along today, or years from today... you can't nail down when, where, who... if the right person shows up when you're 16 are you just supposed to reject them, claiming that you cannot love because of age?

Your ability to love does not get stronger as you get older... I will not fall in love more easily when I am 30 than I do now.

What DOES change with age is your patience, tolerance, acceptance, maturity, goals, aspirations, desires... and THAT is why most relationships don't survive the teenage years, because that is when all of those things change the most. It's not because teens don't have the ability to fall in love, it's just that they don't have the life experience to know what and what not to do with that love when it comes down to everything in their lives changing.

If anything, the ability to love grows weaker with age, I am more cynical, less trusting, and have more emotional baggage now... and I'm only 22.

When I was 16 I was in love with my then-boyfriend, and our relationship was all so simple.

Now I'm in love with my current guy, but our relationship is so much more confusing because of all the bullshit we all go through on a daily basis. The love is the same... it's just life that has changed.

i think that if anything, your ability to love becomes greater when you get older. think of your grandparents. are they in love? do you think they would do anything for each other? i think that older people are probably the most loving.

and maturity plays a huge part in love. you cannot have a muture loving relationship when you're 15 if you're not mature. and another point i was trying to make was that teenagers always think they're in love, when in fact its just hormones and whatnot.

you said yourself that with age comes maturity, and i firmly believe that you need to be mature to love someone. real love anyways. i have a feeling that this debate is going to go on for a while.

What are you opinons?

dude, you're in the EXACT situation that i am! im 15, i was *getting with* a few different guys every week, and i just couldn't decide between them and i thought that i had my life all sorted. i mean, why be with only one person when you could have more? but then, i started going out with my boyfriend. now i look back and i just cringe...going out and *getting with* someone you care deeply about (possibly love) is the BEST feeling in the world.

he always use to be weary before we went out, saying stuff like "but it won't last because u have all of those other guys" but hah, now i don't even talk to those other guys and im in a state of utter devotion to one person...and i don't miss that extra attention either. i may see a hot/nice guy on the street, but i'm not phased. i know i have possibly the best combination of hot/nice boy around.

onto *love*...i do believe that i'm in love. i never ever thought that at this stage in my life i would be, once when my bf (who at the time was going out with someone else) asked me if it was possible that he was in love i practically laughed at him, saying "love is something that you develop over many people/experiences" and "you're too young to realise what it is". but now, i'm just in the strangest state. i see him every day, and yet every moment i'm not with him i'm sadder. i think about him ALL the time. when we're together i get buterflies...it is practically like butterflies 24/7. we can just sit there, staring into eachother's eyes grinning our faces for no particuar reason accept for the happiness of being together (haha ok that sounded really sacky, but it's true!) when i was with other guys, i was convinced that i would never like a guy again in thatway because i never got those butterflies...

if you think you're in love, then you're in love. im sure my perception of love will be different in a few years, but whoever said that feelings were fixed and were always the same??? of COURSE they will change.

so for the moment, you're a love-sick puppy so enjoy it hun

I think part of the confusion revolves around the perception that love, of any form, is eternal and static.

Love can and does occur withing very limited time frames, and withing those time frames it can also change dramatically.

I used to "love" (yes, love) my ex-girlfriend in high school but it's been so long and things have changed that I don't even remember what it felt like anymore... and that's not sad because I got to enjoy it ultimately while it was happening. I do not regret it, and I don't regret not remembering it now.

Love is completely and utterly dynamic and thus we cannot describe it or aspire to understand it. You don't need to understand something to enjoy it. You don't need to hold on to something forever to enjoy it for a short time.

My entire ideal for relationships and love is based on two words: lassez-fair. So far it's worked out. Whether or not that ideal is suitable for anyone else, I know not.

If you think you're in love at 15, so be it, just realize that can change and that such a change isn't necessarily terrible or crushing.

Sorry I realize this thread is quite old.

Love isn't about similarities, it is something much more complicated. People don't have to have the same interests to be interested in each other. Personally I am 16 and I am in a relationship with a girl that I love. In my opinion, the key to love is being very, very honest; with yourself and with your partner.

No, no, no, People over 18 arent supposed to tell those younger than 18 this, but, what the hell. The day you turn 18, you go to a clinic, where you learn about love and what it is. It happens to everyone on their 18th birthday ... Just wait until then.

Yes, for you slow people, this was a joke.

"Love" is a reaction your body has to the pheromones in another person's body. Your body just wants you to reproduce, so get over it, and try and live a lie. It works for 95% of humanity*...
