Default G-String?

why "G"-string? thats all I'm asking. whats with the name? what does the G stand for? does it have anything to do with the shape (way back in the day when it might have been shaped differntly)?

There's V string, T string, which are pretty much the same thing, depending on how you want to wear it. The back is entirely just strings.

There's G string, where the sides are strings but there's a triangle.

Then there's a thong. Which has thick sides makes a big triangle in the back.

Google strink bikini or go to VicSec and you'll see what I mean.

I always thought it stood for "gyno-" but I doubt it's correct.

Now I'm curious.

I know that T and V are named for how it looks. Some women put the sides up high on their hips and make a V. Some put them straight across it looks like a T.

I have no idea what the G is supposed to be though.

Grafenberg?

I seriously doubt that, but it would be kind of entertaining.

thats the closest thing I could possibly come up with. thats the ONLY "G" that really has anything to do with that.

^^Since "that" Grafenberg was just born right around the time the term "g-string" was coined, it probably wasn't named after him, but anything's possible.

http://www.takeourword.com/TOW131/page2.html#g-string

Quote from that page:

From Valerie Segall:

I am searching for the origin of g-string.

Are you planning to wear one? If so, you would be donning what was originally Native American garb. The word was initially (1878) geestring, and it referred to what amounted to a loincloth held up by a string and worn by certain Indians. Most etymologists think that geestringi was probably originally an Indian word which was adopted in a form that was more familiar to English tongues. The term doesn't appear with reference to showgirl costumes until 1936, but it was likely in use in that sense for some time prior to that date. It was shortened to g-string, possibly by contamination from the notion of stringed instruments like guitars and violins, by 1891, at which time we find this interesting quotation in Harper's Magazine: "Some of the boys wore only 'G-strings' (as, for some reason, the breech-clout is commonly called on the prairie)." This suggests that the word may have been of Sioux or other Plains Indian origin.

I'm still going to refer to it as a Grafenberg string to my friends and see if anyone gets the joke.
