Depressed
Homer: What do you recomend for severe depression?
Moe: Booze, booze, and more booze.
This Simpsons quote brought to you by the fact that I don't have a key to the gun safe.
Ok, I'm not quite that depressed, but it's pretty bad. I haven't been able to sleep properly in weeks. I just wander around in a daze. I feel like crying all the time. Sometimes I give into that feeling. I just feel completely unloved.
Only 2 things keep me from doing myself in. A very low pain toloerance is the first one. The second is an odd survival mechinisim where the more depressed I am the smarter I get, so when I most feel like ending it is when I have the most to contribute to the world.

You ever see how a loser(what's commonly known as a loser, at least) acts when an attractive girl pays attention to him(usually because she wants something)? He thinks the girl can do no wrong, that she 'likes him for him.' You ever seen something like that?
I do and have, because I am the loser.
It's the exact same thing here, only you're the poor guy fooling himself.
But, like I said, take my advice or don't. It's your choice.

Re: Depressed
Hey Prom, I emailed you a while ago but you never mailed me back so I'll just write a reply here.
I need to be on meds for the rest of my life for depression and anxiety. When I was in middle school, I started having crying spells, felt like I wasn't worth anything, thought that everyone I came in contact with I hurt. I started cutting and honestly wished I was never born. They put me on Zoloft and with therapy sessions I started feeling better.
A bit later, I was ok, so they took me off of em. The lack of motivation, the not caring about myself came back. Shortly after a met a guy whom I fell in love with and I was in paradise for about 2 years. Things started getting rocky between us and after a lot of drug use I started getting anxiety. Really scary shit, I couldn't leave my house because I was afraid of panic attacks.
Let me say, the break up was horrible. I felt I needed him to be happy, I depended on him to feel comfortable.
This sent me into a downward spiral. I really didn't know what to do with myself let alone him. To add insult to injury, after the break up he treated me like shit. I got back on meds this past summer and I feel great again.
My doc said since the depression comes back everytime I get off the meds, that I'll probably need to be on them for the rest of my life. Actually this past week I've been so busy that I forgot to take my pills for 3 days, and felt like a puddle of mush. I started getting that panicky feeling(which scared the shit out of me) and I started crying for no apparent reason. I also noticed I became more moody around people.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: anti-depressants aren't as bad as what people make them out to be. I either would of killed myself or became a drug addict if it wasn't for my psychiatrist. They can help you.
Anyway, at least you don't have to deal with PMS too! You can email me if you want, ya know!
Oh and SpikeForever, shit the fuck up. You're annoying me.

Re: Depressed
I was on antidepresents from the time I was 10 to 18. I never missed doses (not for more than a day or two) because I would get wicked headaches. I finaly put up with the headaches for 3 weeks, and quit. You know what? Turns out they weren't doing jack shit. No one could tell any difference. And yes, even with the meds I would get very depressed sometimes.
For the erotic fiction readers in the thread, the totse section kinda sucks. Try www.literotica.com (http://www.literotica.com) They have excelent stuff, more of it, and it's free.

Re: Depressed
yeah, Spike is starting to piss me off as well.
What I was saying about meds being bad is really that you should try to handle things on your own or through therapy first. If your problem is really with yourself/your situation, meds can be very bad for your "soul" (for lack of a better word). Also, there are plenty of side-effects that you might experience. And even if you don't have any negative side effects, you will still definately have a strong dependancy. When I was on Effexxor(sp) and forgot to take it for even one day, I was a mess. Crying randomly, wanting to die, all kinds of shit. And if you think you can trust any doctor to know when you put you on meds. They would usually rather drug someone than help them. But if you really need anti-depressants, go for it. You know yourself better than I do
guess i posted kinda late there

If the kind you were taking didn't help, just change.
I was on Paxil for a bit and orgasming was impossible. It sucked big time. Now I'm on 150 mg of Zoloft and everything is in working order.
Sometimes you have to search around for something that's better. Unless you have some sort of epiphany, your outlook on life isn't going to drastically change. I suggest a doctor and possibly some medicine.
I wrote something a little while back, on how to feel better. I'll go try to find it.
Hold on..

Re: Depressed
Hello Prometheus, I just recently registered to this board, though I have been observing it from time to time, on a read only basis. This particular topic, and your particular situation, sparked my interest and I wanted to give my 2 cents.
Depression can be a mind crippling state, and its all too often left to drugs, to "cure". I dont believe medication is the way, because essentially your altering something within your body chemistry to by pass the depression. We all know ultimately this is a dependancy and once you are off the medication signs of "rejection" begin to occur. I ask all of you what kind of "solution" is that? Our mind's are so vast we fail to realize that their are many things in our live's we subconciously reject or detest, and I believe one needs to "deal with it".
This doesnt mean suck it up, or let it all out on someone or something. I believe conscious self exploration of yourself is necessary to truly get serious depression out of your life, because ultimately it is YOU who must resolve this internally. I recommend for you to look into meditation, and I'm giving you this one link in the hopes that it might bring some clarity to your confusion and perhaps help you in the long run.
Getting over stuff like this is never easy but shit happens, it takes a lot of patience and a lot of courage to look into oneself and essentially resolve the situation internally.
I hope you can take any of my ramble to consideration and I hope you find a solution.
(apologies for the lengthy first post )

Re: Depressed
Ayanir: Best newb within recent memory. You'll fit right in here, considering you're intelligent, you can spell, and form complete, readable sentences. Welcome
Hey, Prometheus, I just wanted to say one thing to you: There's no such thing as pure hopelessness. Maybe you're not so much of a glass-half-full guy; I'm not much of one either, but after suffering plenty of depressive, spirit-crushing episodes and after hitting rock bottom, I've realized it to be true. What do I mean by it? Hell, even during the lowest low; when your finger's on the trigger of the gun, there's always something to live for, something to hope for. You may have to do some soul-searching to find it, or you may have to press on longer to find it, but you'll find it. Maybe it's a person, or a future dream or God or Satan or whatever you feel is worth living for, but there's always a reason to keep on.
I know this sounds like something better told to a suicidal person, but it will comfort you during a bad time; I know it does for me. The key lies in finding your raison d'etre and holding onto it (if you haven't found it already). I'm kind of rambling here, sorry about that. I'm not always good at expressing things the right way.
So let's say you've found your reason, but you still feel depressed (there is no such thing as a cure-all)? Do what some of the other posters have suggested; seek treatment, or therapy, or whatnot. Before you do that, though, talk it out with someone (here on totse is a good step). Do you know anyone in person who you can tell anything to? You'll find that once you can get shit straight in your head enough to talk about it, you'll feel strangely better. An example; after making this post and receiving some replies, didn't you feel a bit better about things?
That's about all I have to say. I hope I said something that helped or at least made you go "hmm, maybe..". Take care, man.

Re: Depressed
Hey...i agree with some of the people that were posting about the topic. You should go to a shrink, or someone that can help. Just recently my uncle killed himself. His note was all about how he's been depressed from highschool (He was 25), and how he never felt wanted or needed. I miss my uncle terribly(partly because he was my alcohol runner). Honestly you hurt more people attempting suicide than yourself...(i know i've been there). I know I babble a whole lot...just, there is always someone thats there to help you out...and I honestly think you should go see a shrink.
Much luck
Nyky
p.s. god you guys should stop fighting on some posts...if you wanna fight...make a up another thread just for you two to bash the other.

Re: Depressed
Thanks for the warm welcomes Prometheus, and Infrared I hope to have more insightful conversations in the future with guys like you.
I'd like to add one more small thing, as this is something I've noticed in MYSELF during periods of a really uber form of depression I sometimes get. One thing I've always kept in mind, its that one way or the other you WILL feel better eventually. With that kind of thought process you'll soon notice it yourself hopefully, and if not then try living by something as meaningful or as positive like that or better.

Re: Depressed
Your critising him for getting turned on over the net yet you are having a big go at him. Isn't just the same, words somebody says on a website can be just as false as his little internet girl.

Re: Depressed
I dunno If anyone knows whats wrong, but here goes:
I have been off paxil for about 6 weeks, and for the first 2 weeks, I had a bit of withdrawl but I got better. But as recently as a week back, each time I wake up, I feel sick and almost can't eat anything, but strangley later on in the day Im completley fine. In this time I have allready lost 15 pounds.
I have had depression (and anxiety/panic attacks) for 3 years, and I spent 2 years on paxil. And yes, I actually DID need it, because of the painful, and mind destroying depression related illness, which paxil cured.
I am looking for work right now, and if this gets worse, it could really fuck up everything.
