Hey guys, what is the least hurtful way to break up with you? I have been dating this guy for a while, but we aren't close at all and barely ever do anything. Is writing an e-mail cruel?

Ummm, dumping someone via email is NOT a good idea.

Even if you're not very close it might not be considered "cruel" but it is certainly harsh, immature, and uncalled for under any circumstance. It might not even hurt him, but it makes you look so incredibly useless.

Same with letters/notes... that is kiddie shit. I wouldn't even excuse dumping someone over the phone unless it was absolutely neccessary (ie. they're in another country)

Do it the decent way, to their face, with compassion, and honesty.

If he isnt having the same feelings as you are, no matter how you do it, he is probably gonna think it cruel or unwarrented.

Idealy you should do it face to face, but you should atleast call him up on the phone and speak with him personally. Just remember to be clear and leave no ambiguity.

don't you do it by e-mail...i got dumped by e-mail and it was not good (give him something to hang onto as well)

Tell him honestly why you want to break up with him. Don't make up a bullshit lie it will only make it worse, and you'll end up burying yourself in so many lies that it will be hard to keep them all straight.

Just be upfront with him and say "I want to break up". Playing games and shit just makes things confusing. Breaking up isn't suppose to be a pretty thing (most of the time) so might as well make it swift.

As hard as it is...you gotta respect someone who doesn't beat around the bush. Just be completely honest. Like..."Hey, this isnt easy for me to say but I'm not going to play games, cause your better than that. I can't be with you anymore. It's not fair for me to keep you here knowing I don't have feelings for you. I'm sorry." That's it...done. But don't type it in an e-mail, Tell him.

And really shitty for the guy because he will be so fucking confused about what he did wrong... I learned that the hard way, trust me no matter what you don't want to do this to anyone

If you're not that close, and hardly talk, and you're "just dating," then why not just cut off all contact? If he makes an effort and calls you, then be clear. If he doesn't talk to you, then no harm done, it was mutual.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, and you were closer than I got from your post.

i broke up with my girl last night...i won't bore you with the reasons...but i did it over the phone.

it's not the best way but at least she could hear my words and not have to read them.

i would say do it in person or over the phone...and always remember, honesty is the best thing to go with.
