You do have a point on the sex pleasure/repro thing... however, I see it this way...

The only REASON sex is pleasurable is to ensure the propogation of the species... if sex felt horrible then everything/everyone would die out. Pleasure SERVES reproduction, and is only an incentive to engage in the reproductive process.

My dog tries to hump my leg, you can SEE he's likin it, but dogs don't have reasoning ability so you know he's doing it out of instinct and not because he thought to himself "oooh, you know what would feel good?" The reason he DOES it is because the hormones that control the reproductive system are telling him to.

People do have reasoning ability and we do go at it simply because it feels good, but when you're depressed, or emballanced and your hormones are out of whack you don't feel like sex, and if you force yourself to have sex its sort of "meh" it doesn't feel good anymore. The thing that drives us sexually, that gives us the urges to have sex, are the hormones that encourage mating/baby making.

I think an abortion is justified only when the baby is threatening the life (not the lifestyle) of the mother. I was never surpressed as a teen, I earned the respect and trust of my parents and they let me do as I pleased because they knew that what I pleased would always be determined by my self-control...

The teenage years are NOT a time to just run rampant like a herd of cats. The TEEN years are supposed to be kept as simple as possible so that the teen can get a good grip on his hormones and emotions and learn how to handle them before he starts getting into adult relationships. The teen years are for learning and developing, NOT practicing....



I have a good brain and a fully functioning body, which means I have the ability to be a brain surgeon... I am smart enough, I have two capable hands, I can hold a scalpel, I have good eyes, I can cut straight.... I am physically and mentally ABLE to perform brain surgery...

I however know NOTHING about being a brain surgeon... I have no training, no experience, no knowledge, no skill... I would need years of preparation and learning to become a brain surgeon, to learn to cope with the pressures and responsabilities that come with cutting into someone's brain.

LIKEWISE, at the age of 12 I was physically and mentally ABLE to have sex... so, why shouldn't I have? Because I was not READY. I was not prepared, I didn't have the understanding... I couldn't cope with the pressure and responsabilities that come with having sex Want to talk about a fucked up adulthood? Look at the chicks who get pregnant when they're 14... they don't go to college, they end up with a scumbag husband who can barely provide, and they pay for it for the rest of their lives. The teen years are for learning, growing, developing, NOT playing grown up. You can dable, you can play around and experiment, you can fiddle with each other's bits and pieces, you can become familiar with the opposite sex and learn what and what not to do in relationships. Mostly you should concentrate on the dynamics of the psyche because at no other time in life is it more out in the open than durring teen years.

You have to make it through the teen years using your self control and then you graduate into adulthood and you get to put all those years of learning into play. It really gives you something to look forward to... I waited 21 YEARS to have sex (intercourse, I started fooling around when I was 16, making out, etc)... of my own free will I waited that long. No one pressured me into it, I was never embarrassed of it... I EARNED sex, and I was fully ready for it and I did it with someone so special that I will never have any regrets about it. I am healthy, balanced, not at all wharped, and still very sure that waiting was one of the best decisions I ever made. I didn't go stark raving crazy and fuck every guy I saw once I had been "set free" so it just proves that using self control won't flippin kill ya. Ok, Sarcophagus. I sincerely applaud you for taking responsibility for yourself at a young age. But people are all different, and judging their actions by your standards, and what you're capable of, is not useful. Everyone's circumstances are different, you know the cliche about not judging a person until you've walked a mile in their moccassins.

Sure, in a perfect world teenagers would behave differently. But enforcing certain "shoulds" in their behavior is not consistent with the flow of how the real world works, and will likely fail.

I consider the access to abortion to be an imperfect option in an imperfect world. The best we can do is "damage control" rather than forcing a person to "live with the consequences." "Damage control" allows for a chance at rehabilition, while "living with the consequences" forces one to live in the past and continually pay for a mistake.

This is a really good and valid point. Yes everyone matures at a different rate and some may be ready sooner than others. I do feel that it is solely up to that person and that person alone. From what I have gotten so far you feel that it is natural for teens to have the natural desire to have sex at such a young age. Because it started back in the neandrathal age. But then how come it used to be that in the past they could and would wait untill marriage. They still had the same feelings that teens today have. In my opinion the natural urge to have sex hasn't changed and I think you would agree considering you said close to that same thing. What has changed though is the fact that kids do not have the self control that they used to. You can't use something like "natural urge" in your arguement because that has always been there and that will never change. What has changed is the teens views.

I realize that people are all different (and I applaud you too for being one of the only people in this thread who is putting together intelligent replies ) and I realize that I can't judge people by my standards because I've had a much different upbringing, and there's always a possibility that I'm just a super genius and no one else stands a chance of measuring up to my level of intuitiveness (HA... The fact that I have not yet MET a guy more horny than myself indicates that your assumption is 100% OFF.

Fact is I was the one who occasionally took things farther than BOTH of my more serious boyfriends were comfortable with, because they held themselves to the same standards that I did. I was more likely to loose track of myself, and while I would have still stopped before having sex with them, I often didn't stop before they felt uncomfortable enough to stop it themselves.

GUYS have brains too, GUYS are just as capable of self-control as females, GUYS don't get off with just some piss-poor excuse of a stronger sex drive... it just isn't FACT and its lame of you to suggest it.

HUMAN NATURE declares that both MAN AND WOMAN have a sex drive, women want/need it just as much as men. It's clearly not as obvious because women have been forced to meet certain expectations of what is "proper" while men have been let loose to act however they please because "its ok, he's a MAN" even though its not as obvious its still there and it is just as strong.

I agree with cindy that not permiting somoene to have an abortion is forcing them to live with their mistake and face it daily. The person is likely to resent the kid, and the homelife for that child will suffer. Especially if the mother has no way to support the child, or is simply unable to care for the child properly. It is better for the girl to be able to put her past behind her, if she can.

Adoption is an option, but I dont think its fair to leave a child unwanted in the states hands. It is also a drain on society. Abortion, if it can be handled, is a viable option for many that should not be overlooked.

It is NOT murder. It is a fetus. A fetus is not a child. If you called every fertilized egg a child, then any woman who has ever had sex, and had more than one period in her life would be considered a serial killer, as most fertilized eggs are flushed out of the uterus during menstration.

Also, as george carlin said- "why is it, that if its a human, its a baby, and if its a chicken, its an omlet? are we so much better than chickens?"

However, a teen can think self-control all they want. But all those morals and such more often get blurred by hormones. The other part is that a teen's brain is still developing and changing. So as part of the learning process, they are more apt to doing risky shit such as sex, binge drinking, and the whole 9 yards. That's not to say your points aren't valid. They are, certainly. But the vast, vast majority equate responsibility with birth control, not abstinence. Their self-control ends once the condom is on or the pill is taken. The fact you did more means very little.

I totally agree with spiff on this one. A long while ago, I had such an opportunity, and i took it. I regret it now, but the truth is my hormones got the best of me. The same happens to countless other teenagers who are under simelar circumstances.

Agreed. That's why it's something you're better off trying to inspire people into shooting for ("Hey, it's not impossible, I did it") rather than berating them for failing to pull it off ("Hey, I did it, why the fuck can't you?") when they may have never considered it a realistic possibility.
