Default false love

here's the deal, one of my clients for theropy and a very good friend of 5 years now tells me that she likes me. Now I think it might be all real, but, the concern of she said she used to like me before I started treating her but then it went away comes back up, but she told me a couple years after the fact, now she just tells me that that feeling came back cause we met and hung out the other day. My problem is I think it might have to do with treatments and what not I've been giving her (telling her that there's nothing wrong with her, saying your a better person that half of the people out there, and the other guys dont know what there missing, etc.)not saying I was lieing, but I mean i think it might have sounded like I was comming on to her once I look at it from her seat, so should I go out with her or what?

it would be a really bad idea to dae someone you've been treating for therapy. then again, it's not a good idea to be a friend's therapist. i think that you should stop treating the person first, then give it a few weeks, months, etc. to cool down. there's a common condition where people fall in love with their therapist, but i forget what it's called at the moment.

in short, i'd be wary of dating someone you're treating.

If you've had a professional, therapist-client relationship with her, dating her may be an extremely bad idea. If things go bad and she becomes pissed off and vengeful, you can have your entire career (at least in that area) wrecked. You're in a position of power, so the slightest suggestion that you're abusing it will cost you business. The fact that it'll be, on the surface, true will cost you a lot more.

Wait... I'm assuming by using the word "client" that you mean professional therapy (what is "theropy"?)... and not just "friendly advice"... but in order to be a professional therapist don't you have to have some sort of degree? And in order to have some sort of degree wouldn't that mean that you would have had to pass at LEAST a 1st year university level english/grammar courses or equiv?

Also, wouldn't that degree also give you the ability to offer better advice than "your a better person that half of the people out there, and the other guys dont know what there missing, etc."?? I mean, that's pretty crummy/brainless advice if you ask me...

On TOP of it all, if you're a therapist shouldn't you have more of a clue than we do about this kind of thing? It is unethical for a therapist to become involved with a patient. I don't even have to be a therapist to know that...

Your use of the word "like" used to describe her intentions also indicates a sort of gradeschool romance type thing...

This post seems so bogus... tell us the truth... you're 12, right?

well its not professional, its more of a teen councler thing, but I talk to her alot about her problems and such so I made the comment therapy. There isnt any buisness or anything, just a friend getting help.

Well first of all, if you're doing teen counseling and you're giving advice like "you're better than half the people out there" and you don't honestly BELIEVE that she's really better than half the people out there then you're doing a lot of damage. Counseling isn't just giving people compliments to make them feel better, counseling is listening to someone tell you about their problems and then offering them an OBJECTIVE point of view.

I don't know what people are thinking offering services like "teen counseling" in the first place because what the fuck do teens know about objectivity, they have their own problems.

If you didn't think she was great, but you told her she was great just to make her feel good, then you lied to her... naughty.

If you DO think she's great then drop the teen counseling, have her talk to someone else, because you can't have a normal and healthy relationship with someone if you're playing psychologist to them.
