Ok, so a few things:

1) The gag reflex: You have two palletes in your mouth. A hard one, at the front top of your mouth right behind your front teeth. And the other is a soft pallette on the roof of your mouth which is near throat, and this is what causes most people a gag reflex. So the angle at which you try to do this, may be the problem.

2) Your throat. So I have heard from girls who can do this, that a good tip is to get some throat spray (the kind for soar throats) and use it, wait a little bit and it wil numb your throat to make it easier. or you can suck on a cough drop.

3) You need to be as relaxed as possible, and the best position for attempting this is the following:

Lie on your back on the bed, with your head hanging just off the edge. Have your guy stand in front of you by the bed, and try taking it in this wasy. The reason it is easier is that it aligns your throat up with your mouth in a striaght line allowing you to open your throat to as much as possible and take it all in. Eventually, you you may get it.

I have tried the sprays/drops specifically made to suppress the gag reflex, but I think it's more of a breathing thing. If my mouth is full of, er, something, I feel like I'm going to suffocate. Especially if the sinuses are acting up.

I find I have the closest to success in the "on my knees" position (with the guy standing up) than laying down. But then it seems guys would rather be laying down, or at least sitting.

Any ideas on how to minimize that "locked jaw" feeling?

Yep, that's what I tried, straightening my throat. It's not the gag reflexes that get to me, but the not-being-able-to-breathe thing Cindy was talking about. I can't overcome that uncomfortable feeling. Feels like I'm suffocating.
