Hey everyone, just got a lil question for yall. i checked google and cant find any info about smoking weed while on birth control. My girlfriend just started birth control and is cautious to smoke until we figure out if its dangerous to her or not. we dont smoke alot or everyday so its not like heavy usage. thanx for any help.

It isn't good to smoke on birth control, specially cigarettes. She's not going to drop dead from smoking a joint here and there though.

Age has a lot to do with it too. A 40 year old woman on BC smoking 2 packs a day is more likely to have problems than a teenage girl who smokes some pot now and then.

Could counteract the effect of the birth control, ever so slightly. Other than that, I'm quite sure there's no nasty side-effects like brain aneurisms or anal bleeding, ya know?

Most girls I know are on birth control, half of which smoke weed more than I do. Can't see there'd be any traumatic side-effects since they don't seem to be having any problem.. But I'm not educated to the fullest extent in this matter, so keep looking.

iv been on the pill for 4 years now and as far as i know, smoking cigs or weed duznt affect the efficiency of the pill. i am living proof that its okay

but scientifically, i dont know about weed, but the doc that prescribed me the pill knows i smoke, so i dont think it matters.

Okay guys, while on the topic of indulging in other stuff while on the pill, does taking ecstacy counteract the pill?

Nope, the only things (I know of) to avoid are ibuprofen based anti-inflamatories, ACE inhibitors, and Heparin.

Just to add, smoking more than 15 cigs a day increases the risk of serious adverse effects on the your heart and blood vessels. Most women who have high blood pressure aren't prescribed to oral contraceptives because they can increase your blood pressure. Cigs + the pill = high blood pressure.

Alright! I am glad to hear that there are no effects! It kind of worried me when I heard this because I smoke pot on a daily basis.

Cannabis has *no* proven ill effects on anyone's health. There are no known pharmaceutical contraindications. And every single health issue that plagues cigarette smokers is simply not being seen in cannabis smokers by the medical industry.

In fact, cannabis will probably help alleviate any side effects of nausea that may be caused by oral contaceptives.
