Default BBS Back On-line

Yes, the BBS was off-line for a few hours. It was a case of "too many messages for UBB to handle" and "I don't have time to fix this right now", so I left the BBS off and the website on for a few hours until I had a chance to fix it.

I pruned the message bases WAY back so that should keep us on-line for a few days.

As you were.

Jeff, did you hear about the fake email from you that was sent to all mods and admin? If not, I'll show it to you.

quote:enigma@totse.com

I was tinkering with the BBS system and somehow managed to disallow my access to post, otherwise I wouldn't be requesting this via email.

I'm asking if you would make announcements in your respective forums about the downtime, which I will be using to convert the bbs into phpbb2. The downtime will likely last two to three days.

I'm going to be unavailable most of today, I will get back to any questions or concerns about your accounts and the new phpbb2 system later.

Yeah, acidmelt, the poor guy, ended up posting about it in NOTT, and other mods posted the same notice in their prospective forums.

Well jeff, thanks for the update.

May I ask why you deleted your thread promising

a big surprise?

or did another admin delete it because of spam/bumpage?

Well, I hope for no updates, I like totse the way it is.

Only totse could pull off this old a BBS!

and if you decide to post again, this has been bugging me for a long time.

Where did you get the totse background? who made it?

Jeff couldn't possibly be locked out. He has access to the server itself. If he needed to reset his details he could do it manually.

It would appear most of you don't know very much about Jeff. Firstly, "Jeff Hunter" is almost certainly not his real name.

Secondly, he has explicitly stated that he prefers to be an absentee dictator and to put an absolute minimum of effort into maintaining the forum community. There's only one thing he WILL come down on - and come down hard on - and that's threats to the forum. Totse Army for example was a legal threat, so anyone related was perma-banned.

In short, you'll only see him post when things are going wrong.

Yes because I knew how depressed you were, and wanted to make you feel special by having you receive an email directly from Mr. Jeff himself.

Was that so wrong?

What are those page redirecting to ads? That fucking sucks. You seem to become too confident with the traffic you're getting now, without thinking that people might want to quit because of totse going worse.

Not only the ads, but the fact that you weren't here for a LONG time to at least close the registrations because of all the spam we got, the BBS system that is I-Don't-Know-How-Many years old, etc.

We have a nice, well-populated community that is really going downhill.

Please, don't let it fall

And how much have you donated to totse? None, just like most everybody else I'm assuming. Jeff has to make money somehow, and we're not in a position to question him.

Just be grateful.

You see that little thing at the bottem of the page? it says "Powered by infopop (c)2000?"

I would assume that the UBB is that old.

Otherwise just google "UBB 5.5.b" and it will tell you the release date.

Just because it lacks fetures doesn't meen it isn't stable.

BTW, its nice to know that Jeff Hunter isn't dead/jail.

But isn't he like at least 40?! He couldn't have been that young when he first made NirvanaNet, or the dail in UBB (which should be brought back). . . . could he have?

Yeah, the ads are stupid.

I miss totse a year or so back. It was still going downhill, but spam wasn't nearly as bad, there weren't those annoying ads, and we had an Admin that was around to keep shit in check.

I fear Jeff is slowly drifting towards the dark side

The adds are not pop ups, they redirect the current window to a page adertiseing something, and you need to click on a link at the top to proceed to the page you clicked on.

Well I haven't been redirected at all yet. So there must be something that prevents it.

Why can't Jeff Hunter interact with Totse? Post more than once in these threads, then make threads in SG? I bet he reads every reply to threads like this, and also reads most forums, and knows us by screenname, like Zok does.

Yeah, I'm glad totse doesn't have the avatars and signature bullshit.

Totse is running nice and smooth right now if you ask me, aside from whatever technical difficulties Jeff faces.

People are always saying totse is going downhill and what-not. Just spend some time away from SG. And still, SG isn't all that bad right now. You know it's bad when theres nothing but stupid threads and spam. I've been seeing some decent threads. All is not lost.

And yeah, glad to see you Jeff. Hope you can sort your shit out.
