What to look for on a credit card
What services do you want from your Visa or MasterCard? Are they filling that need? It's just thatimple.
Here is a check list of some services that _may_ come with a Visa or MasterCard:
(It is not necessarily complete. Some services may have no value for you.)
_ No Annual Fee
_ 25 (or more) Days from date of billing - interest free grace period
_ 24 hour Customer Service
_ 800 phone number to reach Customer Service
_ FREE additional credit cards for family members
_ Electronic Funds Transfer payment service
(saves stamps and may increase the grace period another 5 days)
_ Credit Card Registry Service
(Call one phone number if your card is lost or stolen - they call the card issuers)
_ FREE Emergency Card Replacement
(some issuers charge $100.00 when you use this service.)
_ FREE replacement of lost cards
(some issuers charge $50.00 or more to replace lost cards.)
_ Cash Advances with no transaction fee
_ FREE account access checks for cash advance or balance transfer purposes
_ Competitative interest rate if card not paid in full.
Currently 6.9% APR seems to be the rate attracting members here for both purchases and balane traners. There has been some mention of 5.9% APR on occassion.
_ FREE ATM use for Cash Advances
_ Up to $1,000,000.00 common carrier insurance
_ Supplimental Auto Rental Collision Coverage. (Diners Club's insurance us considered better than st)
_ Supplemental Lost Luggage protection up to $3000.00
_ Emergency Cash & Replacement Airline Tickets
_ Emergency Message Service
_ Emercgency Translation Service (usually by phone)
_ FREE Year-End summary of charges
_ Referal Services:
Medical / Legal / Car Tow and Repairs / Travel planning service / Prescriptions
Valuable Doucment Replacement Delivery Assistance
_ Retail Protection Services
Price Protection Refunds for 60 days after purchase if merchant refuses
Price Protection - get back the difference in sale price if item purchased with the card is found be cheaper elsewhere within 90 days of purchase
Purchase Assurance - most purchases for 90 days up to $1000.00 covered against theft or damage.
Extended Warranty - up to an additional year extended warrany on purchases
Price Protection Refunds for 60 days after purchase
_ Travel Agency affiliation. Some card affilations get rebates when their card is used.
_ Purchase points
such as Frequent Flyer miles or purchase plans such as Sprint's Priority Rewards.
_ Telephone calling card
_ Affiliation with a favorite organization.
