Cursing in Swedish, Lesson 3

The Devil - satan

Cursing in Swedish - Lesson Three

Another name of the devil, satan, is often used as a stand-alone
invocation in much the same way as j?vlar and fan:

Satan! J?vlar! Fan! Helvete! (24)
Damn! Hell! Shit! Fuck!
Satan ocks?! Fan ocks?! (25)
Damn it!
F?r satan! F?r helvete! F?r fan! (26)
For heavens sake!

This usage can be in combination with an explaining sentence:

Satan! Ungen pissade p? sig! (27)
Hell! The kid wet his trousers!

The use of the possessive form satans (devil's) is similar the use of
j?vla as discussed above, i.e. generally to add emphasis to a more or
less derogatory noun or adverb, referring either to objects or to
persons:

Det var satans dumt sagt! Det var j?vla dumt sagt! (28)
That was a damn stupid thing to say!
Den satans ungen pissade p? sig! Den j?vla ungen pissade p? sig!
(29)
That damn kid wet his pants!
Jag har haft en satans dag! Jag har haft en j?vla dag! (30)
I've had a hell of a day!
