Here we go again then guys, I always see lots of threads here asking how to lose weight. How do I lose flab? Etc, etc. And more often then not, bad advice is given and/or the same good or bad advice is repeated. So, in light of this and as long as the current mod doesn't mind (arx), I'll be bumping this for everyone to keep it at the top. Or hopefully have it archived. And after the last fiasco, I've given it a bit more work. Just try to post something similar, rather then dispute it and confuse the people who need help. Keep it informative, not arguementitive. So you want to shift those pounds then do you? You want to lose that barrel of a belly, the tree trunk thighs, and perhaps those extra chins? Or maybe you'd like to just drop last years beer gut? There's no magic pill that's for sure, but there's
one simple method to lose them all:
quote:
Controlled diet and exercise.
Sounds scary and complicated right? Sounds like hard work? Well to be somewhat truthful: it is. That need not be the end of your reading though. In this thread you'll find information and tips to shed the weight, and make sure it never returns. Should you not want it to.
So onwards we march, and to our first hurdle of weight loss:
Your diet.
I bet you like pizza, and soda, and fries, chips, ice cream and all sorts of sugar laden, fat filled goodies. I do too! And in moderation, we can all enjoy them. Losing weight doesn't mean you have to eat carrot sticks, celery and nuts. You're not becoming a rabbit, nor an athelete.
So first things first, what should you be eating and drinking? Well, here comes the hard part for most people. You don't want to drink soda. At all. The occasional one or two per week is fine. But not 3-5 per day and upwards. No, no, no. Soda is filled full of sugars, chemicals and crap. Certainly not good for you. You'll not only be able to lose weight by cutting it out from your diet, but also have better health and skin.
Try and swap this with
water and fruit juices.Try and get about 2 or so litres of water per day for a start. And then drink more (about a litre more) when you exercise that day. You need to keep hydrated, and drinking that reccomended amount of water will give you more energy. And help flush out some crap from your body. The fruit juice should be pure juice, or freshly squeezed. It's packed full of nutrients and vitamins. Just don't over indulge on it.
Try and avoid Coffee and tea if you can, but once again you need not never drink it. Just moderate your intake of it. Alcohol I shouldn't need to mention - avoid like the plauge. No more than two glasses of beer (or equivalent) per day. At the very most.
So, that's a good basic foundation for what to avoid, and what not to avoid when it comes to drinking. So what about the eating? This is what puts people off, and they, and you, need not be scared anymore.
Don't eat the junk foods. We all know what these are. Just incase though, avoid: chips, choccy, fries, fast food at all costs, pizzas, burgers, greasy fried food, cakes etc. You get the idea.
What you want to eat is fruit and vegatables, making sure you get your leafy greens too. Try and make sure you get some of either of these whenever you eat. Apples, peas, brocolli, grapes, oranges, melon, carrotts, cucumber etc. Make sure to eat plenty of these, but don't over do it! Eating a large portion of anything is going to put on the pounds! Keep it sensible, but keep it going down the hatch. Pasta, potatos and bread (Wholegrain I'm afraid) are fine. Just don't eat too much of them. You want to be having 5 portions of Fruit and Veg per day. Make sure you do.
As for meat? Yes, you can eat it! Sticking to skinless chicken breast, tunafish, most fish actually, and lean meats will keep you supplied with good, complex proteins. Just don't eat too much meat! Make your meals smaller then what you'd usaully eat, and split them up into 4-5 meals per day.
"But I'm still hungry!"Maybe so but your body should be getting enough nutrients by the end of the day. Your stomach need not be filled completely to get enough of what you need! After a little while your body will adjust to what you're eating. No more fats and sugars and carbs to be used instantly anymore. It will change, and so will you. You'll notice the taste of food more then ever as your palate recovers.
So, we've got some very basic foundations now, on what to eat and drink. And, what to not eat and drink. So will that do it alone? No. Here comes the dreaded exercise!
Exercise.Running. Jogging. Walking. Swimming. Biking.
Yup, that's it folks. Just a few laps in the pool each day, 30 minutes walk each day or on the bike will shed those pounds more then you could imagine. Doesn't seem so bad huh?
Some of these are obviously more effective than the others. Jogging and running is better than the walking. But you might have to work up to it.
Running/jogging/rest periods of walking will benifit you also, and probably will be the most effective method. Just jog 1 mile every two days and you'll start to lose those pounds, and lose that fat layer. If you find you can't run that far, don't worry! Just stop and start walking, have a small breather if you need to, and just carry on. You need to crawl before you can walk. Make jogging 2 miles a day, every other day your ultimate goal.
You can lose a lot of weight following this advice in three or so months, and inches off of your waist. But more impotantly it will give you discipline, and overall better health.
So there we have it, two simple formulas, that when follwed correctly, are proven ways to lose weight, lose the fat layer and get healthy. So let's have a review:
quote:
Controlled diet + light exercise = Wieght loss + Improved health.
It really is this simple. If you follow these tips, you're sure to lose weight. Only you can stick to them, and make sure you don't cheat. Good luck, and happy fat burning
