Bunker Antennas
http://cryptome.org/site-r/siter655.jpg
These are antennas that are on top of a government bunker around me. all I found out for sure is that the central tower has Microwave transmitters on the side (which I knew).
Based on this photo, is there any way to tell what frequencies they may be using based on the antenna shape or length? I remember something about the antenna's length being related to how long a radio cycle on that frequency is (I believe that's the right term) so that if you were on 23cm band or whatever, one cycle would be 23cm. I'm not sure if that's correct but that's the basic idea I got from my studies. I figured someone more educated in this area might be able to help me.
Also, is it possible to determine what type of transmissions are taking place?
EDIT: here's another photo of the microwave dishes. Sorry these are shitty, there the best I could get. http://cryptome.org/site-r/siter626.jpg

Re: Bunker Antennas
[edit -added info on wave calculations]
you might be able to use your dish to help determine them, but i'm preddy sure they are tv and other assorted ones like fon.
your right about the waves cycle. their length is determined by how long they take to have ONE complete wave over the course of ONE second.
but it is also MUCH more than that.. and that is where it gets confussing.
the signal 'goes out'.. but how?
like a balloon?
this is what i'm assuming-- partialy.. because out of all the diagrams that i'v seen and read, they usually make it look like a straight line, when the signal obviously is not a line, but 'something' more like a bubble that eminates from its antenna.
but balloon would not (and could not) be a very good description of a radio wave, because over the course of one second, a large wave-- like AM, are several thousand feet long!
which means the bubble would have to be several thousand feet 'thick'!!
sooo it would *seem* radio waves are like all of the above:
- a line--- but in ALL directions.
- a balloon or bubble-- but one that is as thick as the wave length!!
so i 'guess' a radio wave, sorta would 'look like' a GIANT *thick* blob-- of some sort, that gets larger & LARGER as it radiats (goes out from) its source (antenna usually).
that other thread that just got bumped tonight is a pretty cool animation, of what a signal might look like. but it still doesn't quite cut the mustard because it used little arrows to show where the waves are going.
with this little program you can control the frequency, power and other cool things, like a radio transmitter and see what direction the signal might go and other features of it.

Re: Bunker Antennas
Halvy-- thanks for your response. Below is the site which I found the photos on: http://cryptome.org/site-r/site-r.htm
Sorry I can't post more at this time, have to go. But know that I appreciate you helping me out.

Re: Bunker Antennas
Is this by your house? If so, can you get closer to it? Like close enough to put a freq meter on the wires? Maby it is a normal cellphone tower?

he wouldn't reallly need to do that. he has a dish which should be able to either be pick up on his receiver, or it will over power the reciever and he can tell us what is happening. don't egg staples on to go near towers. .he's addicted to getting 'hi on them' ;)

The best description I can give of what it would look like would be a drop of water. When a drop of water hits a surface, a table for example, it pools outwards. Now imagine that in the air for instance. If it were to shoot off the surface and into the air, spreading outwards, it would probably look something like that. Bear in mind this is on an extremely small scale.

i think the problem is that noone has ever seen this. we've seen atoms, but that is only under very structured circumstances. we have never seen radio waves in action, that i know of. everything is based on 'tests' done, and then conclusions are drawn. ok, that is fine.. but still leaves an AWEFUL lot to be desired when it comes to understanding the myriad of factors invloved with this science.

Re: Bunker Antennas
are you in america?if so i'd be worried about stormtroopers kicking my door in about now.
isnt it an act of terrorism to photograph gov't facilities?
i know you get done bad here in aus.

Haha, hardly. If that were so, the producers of stargate SG-1 would be arrested and executed, because they literally rebuilt the chyenne mountain complex... just on a set, but they DO have the set of an immitation cheyenne, which is the exact replica of the real... therefore... No. Also there are plenty of gov't facilities that are part of the scenery, EXPECTED to have pictures taken of... For example the pentagon Where I grew up you could hardly take a picture in my town without capturing atleast ONE part of Offut AFB, which is home to quite possibly the largest communications hub in the world, aswell as numerous top secret undergoings... course you can't see the good stuff, building 500 is about the most open spot that important stuff goes on, and it's manned by mostly civillian contracters... Noones ever seen the underground bunker

Re: Bunker Antennas
Sorry I haven't been on, here's your responce though
They have MOUNTED MACHINE GUNS there, as well as ground pressure sensors. Shortly after 9/11 a convoy of about 25 black SUV's and 5 helicopters landed there; Dick cheney supposedly 'lives' there.
No one's getting closer than the gate. lol.

Re: Bunker Antennas
Well, Gov't frequencies are almost always digital, so it is safe to assume you can't get them easily. I wouldn't fuck around with this stuff. I know you like to explore buildings and stuff but the gov't, isn't something to mess with. Where'd you get the info its a "bunker"??

Re: Bunker Antennas
found out about it VIA internet research and by talking with people. I myself live about 30 miles from it.
Don't worry; It would be a STUPID idea to try to get in there. Especially since national security is a bitch. Now, assuming it's all digital, is it encrypted in a way that's pretty much impossible to crack, or something relatively common like AES?
Any ideas on what's being sent through the Fiber-optic cable running from it?
Take it easy,

Re: Bunker Antennas
It's the Alternate Joint Communications Center (AJCC) commonly called 'Raven Rock' or 'Site R'
Here's some sites with info http://tinyurl.com/225f3 http://ludb.clui.org/ex/i/PA3183/ http://tinyurl.com/bxtgr (Interesting article)
No more antenna info, but the links give good info.
