My guess on the confusion is because when people hear about plutonium, they instantly think of nuclear fission and a radioactive multiple thousand year half-life for the plutonium atoms. apperntly they are now using some isotope of cesium. 137 i think(by product from nuclear power), and it has a half life of three decades. the main problem is that because cesium is so reactive it combines with many things so it can't be 'cleaned'.
