Re: Johnny Got his Gun
It was a good book, but I hated the pacifist message. I'd die for freedom. In the book 'Johnny' says he's rather be working in a coal mine for 22 hours a day with no food or water than be dead. The book made me disgusted at pacifism. Than in the preface the author supported the banning of the book during wartime, showing the true weak scum that he is.

Re: Johnny Got his Gun
An excelent book about war is Erich Maria Remarque's 'All Quiet in the Western Front'.
The author, an ex-soldier himself, tells a story about young German recruits in the midst of WW1. His goal is to educate the ignorant masses about the true nature of war. To do that, he creates fictionate characters who live the events that are based on the author's own experience.
It wasn't particulary designed with a pacifist message in mind, so you guys might like it.
