Aztec
Hey there people, I was just wondering if any of you has read a book by Gary Jennings called "Aztec". If you have'nt I strongly advise you to. As the title suggests its a historical novel about the Aztec world. The book is very long and took seven years to complete. The wait was well worth it. Its basically about a single Aztec who, after being summonsd by the Roman Catholic church, was given the task of relaying his life story in order for the King of Spain to learn about the Aztec culture. The Aztec chosen for the task is named Mixtli (cloud) he was born into fairly low clas family and died as a lord. In between those is one of the most vivid stories I have ever laid eyes upon. The discription is incredibe, You are almost sweeped into the book and held there. I even had a dream of the Aztec world, its that vivid. You soon find out that the book is loaded with humour, sorrow, sex and extreme violence (remember the mesoamerican cultures sacrificed people to the blood thirsty gods, The Aztec sacrificed people on a scale never before seen. somtimes numbering in the thousands). They also appear to be sadistic, but you soon find out that this is a part of there culture. The book also tells the events that occurs after Cortes landed on the east coast. It gives you a look at the so-called holy R/C churce and you will find that they, not the Aztecs, are much more barbaric and cruel.
