Liquid Nitrogen
Can anyone tell me or direct me to where I can find info on how to make liquid nitrogen from a bottle of compressed nitrogen. From what I have read it just needs to be cooled to room temp. What kind of set up would I need. Diagrams would be very helpful. THX

Re: Liquid Nitrogen
You are an idiot if you think it is that easy. It takes hundereds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. However, it is fairly inexpensive, try a chemical supply store. Look up chemicals in the yellow pages.

Re: Liquid Nitrogen
Dont tell people w/little knowlege where to get somthing that dangerous, much safer this gut sits staring at a cold wet n2 bottle sitting in his living room trying to give spontaneous creation to ln2, than some nut with -273 deg liquid in a dixe cup.
Seriously, LN2 is extra dangerous, the tempratures attainabe kill and destroy all organic things fingers, eyes, plant and animal. when there is a temp difference this stuff can shoot out like it was pumped (I have purpously emptied a dewar simply by inserting a 1/4" line that was four foot taller than the dewar ln2 shot out of tube at unbeilivable speed.)
Just respect what it is if using your hands near the liquid remove jewlery, and clothing that could trap and hold spilt liquid against you. by the way if you have hairy arms like me think about it! the hair can trap ln2 just like a towel.
LN2 can also condense LOX out of air , accidental explosion hazzard!!! and keep spectators back as well as any of our pets.

Re: Liquid Nitrogen
Odd you should mention the Dixie cup. Once in my high school chem class we were getting a demonstration of liquid nitrogen, and a classmate asked if he could have some. My teacher, a good guy who knew how to handle students, asked how he planned to transport the stuff. In response my classmate pulled a crumpled dixie cup out of his pocket (a la Wayne's World) and said "in here". He was dead serious.

Re: Liquid Nitrogen
Well Nitrogen is inexpensive, but the containers run to 300 $.
