Quantum State
I'm not a scientist, but you know how you could shrink things to their quantum state to teleport them? Instead of teleporting an object to another place, why not just shrink it to its quantum state and leave it? This would eliminate the need for garbage dumps and provide a safe place for radioactive waste.

Re: Quantum State
Because we dont have that technology? To get rid of all our garbage, I say it would have made more sense to shoot it into the sun or jupiter or something.

Re: Quantum State
mclaren, what in tarnation are you talking about? shrinking to quantum state? to teleport? huh?

Re: Quantum State
that kind of teleportation is is with entagled quantum states.
bob and alice share an entangled photon. bob can take another photon "jack up" his entagled photon with the one to be teleported and then bam alices photon becomes the teleported photon. and bobs photon is now entagled with another photon. alice and bob share no more entagled photons and can preform no more teleportaion.
not very good explaination. goto sciam.com or google and just search for it you'll find tons of stuff.

Re: Quantum State
yah shit i reckon shooting it into the sun is way better thought it's not practical as of yet because a rocket to the sun aint cheap and how much payload can it deliever?

Re: Quantum State
and the cost of sendning a huge sapceship with enough rubbish to make it worthwile wouldnt be huge, that is a rather stupid suggestion.

I heard they're experimenting with that in Australia somewhere. They've done that entanglement stuff with a beam of light, I heard on the Discovery channel.

by that post i meant to say that your question didn't make any sense.

Re: Quantum State
What you say makes no sence. Shrink to a quantum state? What the fuck? A quantum state is a measurment (generaly unmeasurable) of the motion of an electeon. Quantum states are important to teleportation because everything has to be put together exactly the way it was. We ain't talking star treck where things instantly go from here to there buddy.

Re: Quantum State
If you can sync the quantum states of every atom of some object, it is effectively shifted into pure electromechanical energy and can be transported as a wave. Thats what they did to tele-port hydrogen.
This stuff might be classified now. Might still be on the BBC, I dont know.
They were doing research into it at my college, but sine 911 the cyclotron lab complex has been locked up, so I can't go explore anymore.
