Re: Does the mind die?
Usually by the end of grade school. Or did you mean when the body dies? which would lead to.. could one eventually extract information from a dead person's brain? not a clue [This message has been edited by Sagewisher1 (edited 12-18-2002).]

Re: Does the mind die?
Define "Die". Do you mean phisically? Mentally? When the brain leaks away all electricity? When we consider it dead? When the body dies? when "brain dead"? Be specific!

Re: Does the mind die?
I think he means:
"If you die, can you still think?"
I doubt it. Your body won't emit brainwaves anymore.

Re: Does the mind die?
My theory is that the mind functions as long as it has input to act on. When the body and brain dies, the input it lost. The mind doesn't die or break, it just winds down like a motorized toy with a bad battery.

Re: Does the mind die?
If I understand properly, you are asking if there is anothere plane of existance which you continue to think in after the body dies. If that is the case I will move this thread. But for now I will let it stay.

Re: Does the mind die?
Your conciousness is pure thought, that equals energy, energy cannot be destroyed, only altered.
I have always believed that when you die your conciousness is freed from the constraints of your body, thereby being free to do as it sees fit.
Being pure thought, you can go anywhere, be anywhen, do anything you want to do. The time/space continuum no longer has any effect upon you, if you want to stand on the face of the sun, you are there.
Unfortunately, I have yet to test this theory.

Re: Does the mind die?
The answer is not thought but a soul. I have a Thoery. A light wave is infanite because it has no mass and bieng it has no mass it moves at the speed of light. Our actuall thought has no mass. therefore that should make thought in its self infanite. So the body which has mass eventually will die, however the thought, which probably for science sake does not need the body should live. and this is how I believe there to be an after life and further more if there is any afterlife you much like a lightwave no longer have mass and therefore become infanite making afterlife eternal. Or maybe I'm an idiot just my own thoughts!

Re: Does the mind die?
Some scientist thinks he knows that our conscious/awareness is an electromagnetic field!
This is interesting.

Re: Does the mind die?
When you die, there is no you. You have no perspective. It was just like before you were born. You simply cease to exist like you did in the eternity before your conception.
Sure, we're all energy. Lets say you die, then the worms eat you, the bird eats the worms, an anaconda eats the bird, and some people kill and eat the anaconda.
It's just a continuous cycle. The matter that makes your body was something else entirely a billion years ago. All we are is a byproduct of the different states of matter. Ultimately the same matter that makes us will make something else. It could end up being fuel for a fire.

Light has been shown to have mass, well sort of, they are still hashing it out. If thought has no mass how do people move things through telekinesis? Just a thought. And Mr. Magneto, energy can be created, and altered, just not destroyed. Much like when someone is born/created. I don't know how much you can think or ponder thoughts when you are young, but as you grow your energy/thought increases. Then when you die, it is released or altered into part of the electromagnetic scheme that runs the universe, but your conciousness does not die. But of course, this is all subject to my proving it when I croak.
