the cure for cancer
to all you science addicts: have you heard of this chemist, robert barefoot? he pushes "the calcium factor", and claims it can reverse all degenerative diseases, and dramatically slow down the aging process. he suggests taking "coral calcium". definately worth looking into, it could save your life!

Re: the cure for cancer
If there is goning to be a "magic bullet" I am 100% confident that it will not be something as simple as calcium.
If anything it will either have to be nanotech, which could identify and kill hostile organisims, or it would be something that would boost the body's natural immunity and healing process.

Re: the cure for cancer
to prometheus: thats exactly what the calcium does. 100% absorbtion in the body emmerses your dna in calcium, the nutrient it requires for replication. thus the aging process is slowed, and the body can begin to heal itself, drug free. to everybody: check out this taped talk with scientist bob barefoot http://www.onlinecoralcalcium.com/barefoottape.html

Re: the cure for cancer
Unbe-fucking-lieveable.
I'm going to have to look into this.
Cancer patients going from terminal to benign and the fucking results getting stomped out by the AMA. I always thought something was up with that "blah blah RDA of calcium, any more is toxic!". How the fuck can a staple dietary mineral become toxic?
I highly suggest everyone listen to the tape.

You must be kidding me. Anything in too large doses is toxic. Trace minerals are especialy noted for this. Too much iron can cause all sorts of blood problems, despite being needed for the production of hemoglobin. Copper is needed in the production of fatty acids but copper poising can turn your brain into swiss cheese. Calcium isn't as hard to regulate, and is not nearly as toxic as these other essential trace minerals, but again, too much can have serious repercutions. The following are the 6 chemicals that make up DNA and their chemical formulas: adenine: C5H5N5 thymine: C5H6N2O2 guanine: C5H5N5O cytosine: C4H5N3O deoxyribose: C5H10O4 phosphate: H3O4P For those who forgot what they learned in chemistry class, or whos dogs ate their periodic tables here are the elements that go with the symbols: H: Hydrogen C: Carbon N: Nitrogen O: Oxygen P: Phospherous Odd, I see no Calcium (Ca) in these structures at all. And these 6 chemicals are the only components in DNA. After I get some sleep I will bash some more science into this flawed theory. --------------------------------------------- ~QUESTION EVERYTHING

Re: the cure for cancer
Then what's with these people getting 10 times the RDA in everything and living 100+ years? Is he just bullshitting?

Re: the cure for cancer
in a word, yes. I call it the fad factor, he's prolly getting old and has had little success so he pulls something like this out his ass. Sure, calcium is important, calcium ions do all sorts of good stuff for your body, but it's definitely not some kind of super healing factor. However, there is evidence that people subsisting on a high nutrient/low calorie diet consistently live longer and healthier, but don't expect to swallow pills and get the same results.

I find it a little ridiculous that acidosis could be responsible for everything from hypertension to cancer to multiplesclerosis. He's gotta be bullshitting.

Re: the cure for cancer
change of heart, magneto? i mean come on, the guy cites over 60 nobel prize winners in his books, including Otto WarBurgh, who won the nobel for discovering the cause of cancer. Barefoot has done his homework. and no, i dont work for the guy.

Re: the cure for cancer
um, encasing all our DNA in calcium doesn't seem to me as if it would solve much of anything.... except for the fact that it reproduces, wouldn't have that happening anymore.

Re: the cure for cancer
Sometimes people see the end of their life before the end of their works. That doesn't lead to pulling shit out of one's ass, it leads to finding isolated cases and heralding them as miracles that can happen to anyone.

I dunno, maybe this is stupid but I noticed the trend that, when they raised the RDA for calcium the percent of americans with cancer goes up....dunno just an observation

Hell yeah. I'm suprised he survived the first Mercury poisoning they did when they impacted his mouth.

Re: the cure for cancer
First things first: This is utter bullshit. I'll get back to that.
Prometheus I agree with you but your argument is flawed; just because there is no Ca directly involved with the structure of DNA doesn't mean it isn't needed. Ca can be part of an enzyme or co-factor.
As far as Calcium being an anti cancer system it is bullshit. I don't care how many nobel prize winners this guy cites it doesn't make him any less of a fraud. You can cite enough things and devise studies to make it look like anything is a miracle substance. Extreme excesses of Ca are very uneccisary. I'm not sure if it is used in catalysis in our bodies or not but I do know that most of the excess after our bones are done with it goes out our bladder. Unfortuntely large excesses lead to mineralizations and painfull kidney stones. There is no way in hell Ca helps encase our DNA with a protective barrier.
Cancers are caused by faulty genes either inherited (ras-farensyl transferase) or created by carcinogens. You can limit your exposure to carcinogens and take antioxidants = pretty much eat large amouts of fruits and vegtables. But if you inherited bad genes you are in trouble until we get new drugs on the market and/or gene therapy techniques.

Re: the cure for cancer
Okay, lets start with why cancer sucks. Cancer is really just cells that dont know when to stop reproducing cells. Sure it starts with 1, but then grows... grows... and keeps replicating itself, each one not knowing when to stop reproducing, hence the turmors(a wad of dumbass cells who dont know when to stop replicating). And why do these stupid cells not know when to stop? It's all about the oncogenes (here comes the word hence again) hence the title of cancer doctors Oncologists. Cancerous cells are faulty because they have too many oncogenes. Oncogenes are the part of the cell that receives the message telling the cell to replicate itself. Now when there are too many oncogenes, they are too close together and begin to set eachother off. Thus telling the cell to reproduce more than it ever should. This cell replicates itself including the crappy oncogene count. Okay, now lets go through some of the current ways of killing cancer. Chemotherapy is basicly the RoundUp(weed killer) of cells. It kills all cells, not just cancerous ones. Like round up kills both the weed and the grass/plant. You just have to hope that you kill the weeds and not all the grass. So while killing all these cancerous cells, you also kill plenty of healthy cells, making you very weak and often hairless. There is also surgery that just trys to remove all the cancer, which is very difficult based on the fact that cancer grows/spreads so out of control. Back to the original topic. Bob Barefoot has a paid program that often comes on comedy central early in the morning. When I first saw it, i thought that he seemed very credible and knew what he was talking about. The second time i saw it( i dont sleep) i realized he tended to avoid yes or no questions. His coral calcium seemed to be an amazing idea, but i think the real cure for cancer will come from something to do with the oncogenes. There have already been several possitive studies on it. Supposedly they had found something to deminish the ammount of oncogenes, keeping the cancer cells from replicating so much. It was even tested on someone, who showed almost immediate tumor size reduction aswell as very few or no side affects. I predict/hope that this product or chemical is in its final stage of production and will be avalible to the public soon.
- I probably left some things out, or might have mixed up my vocab or something, i am only 15 so give me a break.

Re: the cure for cancer
No! What you said was well thought out and as factual as such a thing can be... Have you read anything on the enzyme that cancerous tumors produce to surpress the cancer cells surrounding the tumor from developing into additional tumors? There was an interesting experiment done a while ago. It was noticed that after a tumor was removed it didn't take much time for new tumors to develop in the area of the tumor that was removed. It was discovered that the excised tumor had been producing an enzyme that supressed the growth of new tumors near it. Interesting stuff...

Re: the cure for cancer
Hey Prometheus,
As far as I know we have only identified 8 strands of our DNA and not to long ago we couldnt see that many. What about the other 4 strands.
