Hi,
I want to pick up cell phone freqencys on a Uniden,bearcat 30 channel 10 band radio scanner. When I try to enter a cell phone freqency it reads an error sign.In the users mannual it reads that it will do just this. Is there any way around this,Thanks.

There's a chip that blocks those frequencies. You have to mod the device. I believe that you'll find instructions at www.google.com

There is no way to mod your scanner. there is a law that says that says no new scanners can be made that can be modified to receive cell fone freqs. So either your scanner was made after the law was passed or it doesn't cover those frequencies. In either case you won't be listening to cell phone conversations. Try scanning from 900 mhz to 927 if you want to pick up cordless phone conversations

Cell phone frequencies on some of the cheaper scanners are cut out by a single chip. By removing this chip and doing a little soldering you can pick up cellphone frequencies.

If you're making reference to analog cellphones, then yes, you can evesdrop on them fairly easily.

Although that technology is outdated and the majority of the cellphones in the united states opperate on either CDMA (code division multiple access) or TDMA (time division multiple access).

Both are encrypted, a simple explaination or example would be... CDMA uses a complex form of binary code and TDMA uses a form of compressed data packets.

There is no magic cellular receive chip that just has to be removed in order to hear cell phones. It is ILLEGAL for manufacturers to make a scanner if it can be modded to receive cell phones
