homemade antenna?
Ideas? What if I just ran speaker wire out my basement? Or Unplugged stuff around the house?

Depends, Speaker wire out the window will work, but it has to be the right length and impedance. If it's not you could fry your exciter. It also depends on what freqeuncy you transmit. For my hf operations I use speaker wire hooked up to a transmatch or tuner. That link that the other guy gave you has some formulas for finding the right length of the antenna. You should probably get a ham license as it will give you a basic understanding of radio, if you really want to get technical get the ARRL handbook.

i would suggest a simple di-pod it would be the easyist .... do a search also provide a little more info and it would be easyer to help you

6985 divided by the frequency will give u a quarter wave antenna!
