Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more!

Default Group Gaming

What are some of the best group games? You know games that a group of people can sit around and take turns playing. Particularly PS or PS2 games. I dont think 4-8 people sitting around a computer to party and play games would be too much fun.

Fighting games like Tekken are cool, but Im damn good at it and its always a one sided fight. My gf is almost good as I am and my friends get embarrassed or even pissed off when the get their head stomped into the ground by a girl.

Driving games can be ok too but the learning curve on games like "gran turismo" can be too much for newbie gamers. Sure its funny watching them bounce off everything but it gets frustrating for them fast.
So keep the learning curve on games in mind. It has to be fairly easy for someone to pick up quick.

Here is my top 5 list:

    *Parappa the Rapper
    *Moto Racer
    *Tekken
    *Soulblade
    *Twisted metal

Neither of Sony's consoles are good party machines.

Get an N64, or a Dreamcast. They're dirt cheap, and better for multiplayer. If you're willing to go all out, get Samba de Amigo and a couple sets of maracas.

If you have to stay with PS/PS2, go find a copy of Vib Ribbon, then tell all your friends to bring their favorite CDs...

youve obviously never played an 8 player Killer Instinct tournament, 8 player Micro Machines or 4 Player Mario Kart, Goldeneye or Perfect Dark ...

Playstations are for lonesome loosers ...

Not Hardly if that was so then why would I be interested in games for me and my friends + my gf and her friends to play together?
Sorry but no lonesome losers here. But you seem to know a lot about it.

Also the PS and PS2 kick ass!

  • They have more new games come out every month than any other system.
  • And not a bunch of cutesy kiddy games.
  • They have the best game software company's making their games.
  • And just the fact that I can sit in my lazy-boy or lie on the couch and play my PS2 makes computer gaming lame.
  • Sony and the PS2 are the industry leader like it or not.
  • So raging the PS or PS2 is just fucking retarded.

Perfect Dark and Goldeneye are probably the best multiplayer games. You can play them with 2 to 4 people and it still kicks ass. For a good two player game go with Marvel Vs Capcom 1 or 2.

yes, there are funny games for the PS, like the games youve mentioned, but the best game software company for consoles is without any doubt RARE(WARE). I dont care about quantity and the cut scenes, I care about quality and ergonomic gameplay. And thats what PS games usually dont have. Sony may be the industry leader, but Nintendo has designing for groupplay and having fun written on his flag.

Im not raging the PS, but the PS wasnt made for a bunch of people that want to play in one room, its just a better PC for games.

PS and PS2 are great systems, but they're hardly good for multiplayer. notice it only has 2 control slots, and finding games that use the multitap are few and far between? Sony's systems are generally ment for the solitary gamer.

you want multiplayer nirvana? try Dreamcast/N64. the DC is gods gift to party gamers, with excellent games such as the best version of San Fransisco Rush 2049 (4-player), and it's also got Power Stone 2(4-player), Samba De Amigo(4-player, I think), Zombie Revenge, House of the Dead 2 (is a great 2 player gun game), Bomberman online (which also has great 4 player games),Outtrigger(4-player, and online), Quake 3 arena(4-player and online), and a crapload of others.

N64 also has it's share of good multiplayer games. I suggest Perfect Dark, Mario Party, Cruisin World, Bomberman 64, and in some cases, GoldenEye.

you don't have to rant that Sony makes the greatest systems. they don't, REALLY, but they're still pretty damn good. If you quit being so narrow minded to the PS, then many new and wonderful games will open up to you. Trust me.

I can't believe I forgot Power Stone. My friend bought DC and got the demo cd with it and everytime I went over I played the demo for Power Stone 1. It's a such a good game (the demo was good, the full game must be better).

lol, that's surprisingly true. the Demo rocked when I got mine, me and friends spent all of an hour until I immediately went to the store to get it. trust me, power stone is great (only 2 player), but for party-ing, Power stone 2 is even better, with huge, branching stages, 4-player, and WAY more weapons. power stone 1 is better if you want to simply fight, cause PS-2 eliminates the kick button, and just turns it into the "special move" button.

Have a bigass LAN Party, nothing else comes close.

Get a router, lots of computers with ethernet cards, a few miles of cable, and your favorite multiplayer games. Bring consoles too if you want. Invite all your friends who are gamers.
