Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more!

ff10 is out now, I do believe. I got my copy from Square the other day, didn't play it yet.

It's for ps2, and it's likely there'll be a pc version sometime in the near future. No plans for any other console releases as far as I know.

Well I played the first half hour or so of it, and it LOOKS gorgeous, and so far didn't annoy me. (Most square games start slowly for some reason imo, they seem to have gotten past this)..

Battle system seems fairly standard so far, will let you know how it goes as I progress further.

The battles do have some novel features;
its a three person formation but you can call up the other characters to replace one if they have a more useful skill in the battle or if one of your people is hurt.

also the summoned monster actualy does some fighting.

on other notes:

the plot line is tighter; I havent been in full world movement mode.

the talking characters are a nice touch.

I really hate playing blitzball.

I'm not reviewing FF10, just playing it so I can see if it lives up to my expectations as usual, and because, well, I got it for free so I might as well try it out. But someone else already wrote a review for the site I think.

i just got final fantasy X 2 weeks ago, if i were to review it, i'd give it like an 8 out of 10.

Probably the best part of the game would have to be the graphics, other then the graphics i'd actually say i prefered the other final fantasy's, from 7-9. The main problem i have with the game is that its way too fuckin linear. There is no world map, and you can't listen to the funky music while flying your airship. Seriously though, this game is fucking linear. I mean half the time where your in an area where you have to battle enemies you just walk on some straight path, you have like no multiple paths to travel. The voice acting is nice, and you won't have to spend any time reading crap, but the stories a little dry, compared to 7 anyways. I finished it in 40 hours.

I beat the game about a week ago, and it was actually really good. The plot wasn't as good as 7 (obviously), but much better than 8 & 9. The linear gameplay pissed me off at first, but once u get the airship and unlock all the secret areas it gets less linear. It's still alot more linear than the rest of the PS Final Fantasies, but its plot and gameplay make up for it i'd say. The sphere grid idea is kind of cool because it's a combination between the job system of 5 and the system used in 9, since the characters do come w/ predefined jobs, but by the end of the game if u try u can teach any of the characters any abilities (except summoning - that's a specialty of Yuna). The ability to switch characters in and out of a battle is cool too, so i'd say the gameplay besides the linearity is better than 8 & 9. One other complaint i have is that there are only 8 aeon's (summon's) total, 5 being mandatory and 3 being hidden. Lets see...also, the music isn't as good as the other one's in my opinion, since rather than nobou uematsu doing all of it it's worked on by 3 composers (him included) giving it a very different feel. Some of the new additions musically are kind of cool, like the rock song at the begining, but its lacking the amazing orchestration and catching melody that nobou put into each of his songs. Right now i can only really remember how like 2 of the songs went and that's only after not playing for like a week. Graphics wise it obviously kicks the ass of any of the previous final fantasies, amd I would say that it has the best graphics i've seen in a console game to date. Both the FMV sequences and the gameplay graphics are truly amazing. ANyway, i think i've covered just about everything.
