| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Re: ~question~
What kind of war/strategy games?
Do you mean Sim games, or what? What kind of war? Do you mean games like warcraft? or command and conquer?
be more specific and then I can help you out. Give me an example of a game in that genre that you liked.

Re: ~question~
i highly reccommend the game Super Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars. its the best RPG for snes. it about a 50 hour game straight through. and it has so many secrets and differrent misc. items and interactive places, that you forget your playing a video game.
P.S.- if you happen to come across the secret jester in boosters tower, try not to cuss him out when he tricks you

Re: ~question~
Super Mario RPG may be good, but it blows in comparsion to other games. Hell, it blows in comparision to other RPGs. Just look at Chrono Trigger (best damn game for the SNES), FF2, FF3, Harvest Moon and Secret of Mana.

Re: ~question~
Me! Stuck in the past? Maybe. But here's some reasons I may not be:
- He said he was mainly intrested in SNES games. I think the most newfangled one of those is Donkey Kong Country 3.
<--Begins to puke just because he mentioned DKC3
- Sometimes what's in the past is better. Especially these days. Most companies, even Squaresoft these days, don't give a fuck about plot (what I think matters in a game) and put all their resources into fancy ass graphics (what everyone else thinks matters in a game). And, we may be amazed by these new special effects and shit now, but five years from now, comapnies are going to have to work hard on plots again, or come up with some sort of new special effect that looks real cool.

Re: ~question~
Go play Lunar, and Grandia, and their sequels.. All games with AWESOME plots.. I personally think most square games aren't living up to the hype.. Square is actually full of themselves.. you should see the shit you have to do as a gaming site just to get approved by them.. The only company that's worse is Sega... I mean, I liked Chrono Cross, but I also got really frustrated with it at times, because they just expect you to run around the world a million times to work out where you're supposed to go (or buy their strategy guide).. so don't mistake me for someone who is a squareophile, because I'm not.. it was just that all the games you mentioned have sequels is all.. Lunar Silver star story is the BEST rpg ever, and should be a requisite for everyone wanting to play rpgs.. Actually, I get the feeling Chrono Cross ripped off lunar a lot.. but that's just my opinion Also, Valkyrie profile concentrates more on gameplay and a cool concept for a plot than on graphics, and kicks ass too.. It's not that companies aren't bringing out awesome games with cool plots, its just that some companies like square, with their high profile, know that their games will sell even if they suck.

Re: ~question~
I liked ActRaiser, I think that's what it was called. One of the first for that system. The Shadowrun wasn't bad either, but the Genesis Shadowrun was much better.

Re: ~question~
ActRaiser: Cool.
Shadowrun: Have to try it sometime (played the book version).
Lunar: I don't have a Genisis, but friends have told me I'd love both the Lunars and Phantasy Stars.
Square: Past FF7, Square really disapointed me, too. They used to have maybe a game or two a year. Now they have about ten a year. They just divide up the greatness that used to go into those two good games, and distribute that to make 10 mediocore games.

Re: ~question~
Lunar has been rereleased and upgraded for PSX, and that same version will be released for PC sometime in the next few months.. so you'll be able to play it, since presumably you have a computer which you use to post here.. Lunar 2: eternal blue, is also scheduled for a PSX release probably in november (it's been delayed a lot by sony)..
Both these games rock..
Square sucks.. really, they're so up their own ass, that unless you're an "approved" site, they won't even send you gaming news... Most companies send you news and releases pretty much as soon as you ask for them and they see you have a site that looks ok, but not square.. with them, you have to go through the scheduled approval process (happens about every 2-3 months) and if you don't get approved, you don't find out about it.. really, they truly suck... Whereas companies like Infogrames/Gtinteractive, Ubisoft, working designs, among others, are cool, have really cool pr people and send me lots of free games, which is awesome.. Hell, even eidos sends out info about their games, although they're too poor to send out the games themselves..
ahh well..
