| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Rpg plots
What RPG's do you people think have the best plots. I love the plot in wild arms, there's no love story there which makes it kinda off beat from the rest of the RPG's. It also has some of the coolest guns I have ever seen.

Re: Rpg plots
Lunar silver star story is one of the best RPG's I've played, because of the story. You don't want to stop playing because you want to find out what happens next, plus the characters are quite humorous.

Re: Rpg plots
i dig'd out the old BaldursGate out of my closet, and i was surprised how much efforts they made for the ambient effects, it comes on 5 CDs (the full version, not the 1st 2 'episodes' only package) i played RPGs (tabletop ones - called GURPS, which stand for Generic Universal Roleplaying System - the best and most flexibel system i've ever played!!!) for a long time.

Re: Rpg plots
I LOVED tha stories of the old FF series games, but the new story in FF8 sucked totally. FF7 and down were all great, except for mystic quest, if u can even call that a game. I saw previews for FF9, and I like how they switched back to swords and mideival stuff instead of technology. FF is probably the best and most well known RPG series. Of course FF2 and FF3 were the best. If you haven't played FF5, get the FF anthology, or the ROM off the internet, it too is a great one. See ya.

Re: Rpg plots
I like the FF's too, but I prefered Lunar, despite the fact that it didnt' look as slick as FF7 and 8. FF8's plot was ok, but I think it needed more humor, 7 was way funnier than 8.
Ohhh.. btw, www.gamethrust.com is a really cool all platform gaming site that you should check out cos my boyfriend is the news editor, and if the page gets lots of hits, some of the game companies will send us games to review.. Plus it's pretty informative and up to date on all the latest game news. Of course you don't have to go, but it'd be nice.. *smiles sweetly*

Re: Rpg plots
hehehe i get my "previews" also before the game hits the shelfs (usually 2-4 weeks in advance), but then its the FULL/FINAL/RETAIL version. boy, i LOVE the Gamez/ISOz channels "...everything on the Internet is for free..."- FRAVIA+At [added...] ehm suziegirl... i checked the site out, but, i dont really like it...45% of the site isnt finnished (not even the PC section, which is the "biggest" game-platform on the globe), and that they're already having a "X-Box" section (Mickey$ofts upcomming console, which only exists on paper, and wont be released until 2002-2003) is IMHO ridiculous besides, www.avault.com has much more indepth and more objective reviews. not a rant, just my 2 [This message has been edited by Atlana+ (edited 05-26-2000).]

Re: Rpg plots
At.. np. It's kind of a work in progress thing, my bf just writes articles, not any of the other stuff, but it is getting better over time. When we get games they'll be the full versions too. Did you know companies like Eidos quote a figure of 50000 hits/month before they'll give you games to review? psycho people

Try the old game called Albion, it's fucking brilliant. It's about three-four years old but I still think it's one of the best RPG games ever.

Re: Rpg plots
ok these are all great games in their own way but has everyone forgotten about the best and that being "the secret of mana" for super nintendo, sure it didnt have the cool FMV's or anything but the story and the way you got magic were really cool and it was a bitch to beat the game. if you have never played it before, go do yourself a favor and buy a copy. youll thank me

Re: Rpg plots
Secret of Mana rocked the fucking house! (Pardon my French.) I loved that game I'm so pissed I sold it to my buddy. But it wasn't that hard, I beat it fairly easily and I suck at games. You know what game had the sweetest plot? Hmmmm.... Dragon Warrior! Go save the princess and beat down the evil wizard. That game was awesome! No shitting my dad used to be addicted to it, he even took the Nintendo up to his room once, my mom told him it's Nintendo or me. He chose her. Funny shit though.

~Suziegirl yup i knew that, they wont "invest" in something nobody is 'visiting'...its the same with paper magazines and corporations in general, they 'place/order' Ads. in the magazines only (where a magazine is actually living from), if the 'tests' are good - there is a little negative points in the tests 'allowed' (otherwise the consumer would get suspicious ) but only spoilages. nothing real. Re: Rpg plots
could it be that here are only console games are discussed ? /me is and will ever be a PC freak/gamer speaking of games, if anyone is into SciFi/Space strategy games...invest u'r money in IMPERIUM GALACTICA II, one of the best programmed (code-wise) games, with lots of fun. some hungarian programmers made it...it comes on 4 CDs (for a strategy game!) 1 install CD and 3 CDs for the Player-races and this one is REALLY its money worth!!! see also www.imperiumgalactica2.com At [This message has been edited by Atlana+ (edited 06-01-2000).]

Re: Rpg plots
Judging by plot only FF7 is best just because the main character is a schizophrenic who lost his memory. Lunar:the Silver Star the original sega CD version carried itself greatly on story alone not to mention a touching song in the intro that didn't let you quit. As for stuff not mentioned before Planescape: Torment has a great plot. I guess any game where you don't know who the hell you are at the beginning and learn as you go.

Well if you've played the sega version of lunar, the story and everything else is the same in the PSX version, they just added a bunch of cool animations of the characters and some voiceovers.. stuff like that..

Re: Rpg plots
sorry to bring back such an old topic, but i believe the old 1988 hit, Fallout 2 is an instant classic.
you start out as "the chosen one" from a nuclear vault tribe. see, there was this HUGE war, and atom bombs were dropped all over the united states. there was a man called the vault dweller (the player's role in fallout 1) who had a quest to find a new water chip for a vault numbered 13. he went through this whole quest to find a water chip and destroyed an entire mutant army (spawned from a nuclear waste material called F.E.V.)
in Fallout 2, you are a descendant from the origional vault dweller (the vault dweller was banished from vault 13 because he became too much like the outside world) and your tribe requires something called the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK for short) which is said to make even a barren wasteland firtile. the people in your tribe are dying. so you have no choice but to save them. there are strong messages about bigotry and sexism involved in the plot. near the end of the game, you travel back to your village, because you have FINALLY (this took me three game years) found the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, and you realize that your entire village was either killed or abducted by a group of people called the Enclave. They live in an oil derrek off of the coast of California (the entire game is in California). They believe that they are what is left of the United States governemt and that it is their job to exterminate the mutants (still around from fallout 1) living on the mainland. they believe that everyone on the mainland is a mutant. they do tests to check for being "guilty of mutation" from the nuclear fallout particles that dropped before. the enclave plan on using a mutant strain of the F.E.V. material (now made into a virus) to wipe out every single living thing on the mainland. your final quest is to destroy the enclave before it can preform further tests upon your tribesmen and unleash the deadly virus to the outside world. in the end, you have to fight the head of the CIA (the enclave is a mockery of our current government) who is beefed up on muscle pluses and walks around in an alien powered armor. after that, the oil derrek goes to hell with you and your tribe safely ashore.
i was and still am addicted to this game. mostly because it is based upon the old pen and paper RPG's. it took me 4 months of constant playing and pondering to finally beat it. there is an endless possibility of sub-quests because they are dependent upon your characters abilities (strength, dexterity, charisma, endurance, luck, and perception)
well, not that i have told you basically the entire game, try it for yourself. its like 9 bucks at Best buy.

Re: Rpg plots
I'm currently hooked on Icewind dale, fucking addictive game. I loved Baldurs gate, shadows of amn was nyeh, but I seriously think that Black Isle's got it licked plotwise. Character development is minimal, but then again, I really like developing the character myself, not watching them make the choices w/out my input, and multiplayer BG kicks serious ass... oh, and bar room, its 19 98 man, not 88...

Re: Rpg plots
the plots of the second and third final fantasy are good. but the first one isnt especialy good there was no charachter story line. The second two had good charachter story lines. The third did the best job because it also gave you the flexability of the first one in that you could choose your group. how did secret of mana end I beat it but I forgot I cant remember much past the evil wall on the flying castle.
