Re: divination
There are so many forms of divination You can do divination by pendulum, where you have a piece of wood mental or crystal hooked or tied to a string or chain(depends on your taste).hold the pendent's chain to where you have your elbow on the table arm stright, hand level and don't move. Ask the pendent either out loud or to yourself to show you 'yes', it will swing clockwise/counterclockwise or right/left or up/down. Then ask it to show you 'no'. It should the opposite of yes, if it is not then put it away and try again. If it is the opposite, then you can start asking questions and most of the time the answers are right on target. There are so many different kinds, I'll come back and post a web site that has the different kinds and the explainations behind them. Cards, runes, eggs, sticks with symbols on them, even feathers. Some ppl look for divinations through nature, the way the winds blows, where a bird calls from and what time it calls and for how long. It's really quite extensive and most ppl find one or two types they like and stick with it for life.

Re: divination
You forgot Physical Necromancy, the reading of answers and acquisition of insight in the composition of dead tissue. It's quite messy and goes against a lot of religious practices. I think another form of Necromancy comes from questioning dead spirits or the like...

Re: divination
I believe that necromancy as divination is a recent manifestation. Necromancers also work with death magick & black magick - although questioning the deceased was always also a part of it. Anyone know more about necromancy?

"An ancient art of conjuring the dead for the purpose of Divination. Throughout history, necromancy has been feared because of the dangers involved, and is reviled as one of the ugliest and most repugnant of magical rites. Necromatic rites are not practiced in neo-Paganism Witchcraft, but the are in Voodoo. Necromancy is not to be confused with conjuring Demons or the Devil. The spirits of the dead are sought for information because they are no longer bound by the earthly plane and therefore supposedly have access to information beyond that available to the living. Conjured spirits are asked about the future and where to find buried treasure" http://www.angelfire.com/ca6/pagansplayground/necromancer.html

Re: divination
Thanks for the link. Here's one that I've read about it: http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/tomekeeper/types/necromancy.html
'As time has progressed and information may now be more freely shared across the internet, the new breed of Necromancer is capable of once again delving into the secrets of death and of illness, as before.'

Re: divination
Thanks Alykorn.
I'll add Cartomancy as divination by cards proper, Tarot being one incarnation of Cartomancy.

Re: divination
I use Tarot(cartomancy) & runes (gramotomancy). I have used a pendulum only slightly - it's my next step. I also cast astrology charts, and am just getting into divination with them.
Oneiromancy is interesting - hadn't heard a term for it. I get deja vu regularly, but haven't had any precognition before an event. Don't remember my dreams well enough in general, I think.
I'd like to get into scrying, or crystal gazing; & tea leaf reading. It seems a good way to make a connection with the seeker, to have a cup of tea with them. Good conversation.

Re: divination
Aye, I agree that a cup of tea does create a good repore(sp?) with seekers. I have two or three clear dreams every night, sometimes they are a little too clear and I write them down every morning. I have just truely started studying runes. I ususally pick one topic and study it until I know and am comfortable with it, practice for awhile and then move to something else. It's nice to see others are interested in the same things that I am, it makes a lonely time when you are stuck around bubbas 24/7 and they run screaming to the boondocks when they even think you are interested in the occult or anything simular to that.

Re: divination
A friend synchronistically gave me a copy of 'The Book of Divination,' by Ann Fiery. Here's the few we haven't already covered:
Metoposcopy - divination by the lines on the forehead, which are believed to hold astrological impressions left by the planets.
Oracles - those with direct link to the supernatural.
Phrenology - divination by the size, shape, quality of various sections of the head.
Alchemy - not sure how divination fits into this one.
Tasseomancy - (same as Tasseography).
Haruspicy - prediction from the entrails of animals; battalions of animals were sacraficed to the divinatory cause; is derived from a very early form called hepatoscopy or "liver-gazing."
Rhabdomancy - (dowsing), the art of finding resources using a divining rod.
Also has discussions of astrology, numerology, oneiromance, runes, talismans, chiromancy, geomancy, & tarot. Doesn't include all of the forms listed in this topic.

Re: divination
Wow--after that next to last post, what can one add? Having been a professional psychic for over a dozen years (learned from my wife, who has been doing readings for over 30 years), I can recommend a wonderful commercial oracle, The Crystal Oracle. To use it, you cast five stones (amethyst, acquamarine, carnelian, black tourmaline, rose quartz) onto a cloth marked into circular sectors. It is particularly good for those "yes, but" kind of answers.
