Default wendigo

in my native culture we believe in the wendigo. the evil spirit who comes at night and carries you away, out of nowhere and for no reason.
it all seemed like babble from bored ass anishinaabe's to me.
but some of the shit that goes on is unbelievable. i am really not permitted to say more than that, due to restrictions of my culture.

It is like that guy that came last year, saying he worked for the government. He told us a bunch of crap, and wouldnt tell us anymore because he didnt want to get in trouble, even though if he really did work for the government he would have gotten in trouble for saying anything at all.

I found this:

'..roughly translated to mean "the evil spirit that devours mankind" ... There are many who still believe that the Wendigo roams the woods and the prairies of northern Minnesota and Canada."

Can you tell us which culture is yours?

yep, there was three volumes, everything from the classic truck following some girl and flashing his lights every now and then until she ditches him and gets stabbed by some crazy dude in the back, who would duck everytime the helpful truck flashed its lights, to the spider eggs in humans, yuck, hell they even had instructions for the halloween party game of pass around the dead guy, with the peeled grapes for eyes, noodles for guts.. ect... here is some more info on the wendigo...

Richard Kane Ferguson. There's no mistaking his artwork because it is so distinct.

I've read many legends about the windigo/wendigo but one thing that seems to pop up a lot is that it's a human being (or at least a human cursed by this spirit) that gets lost in the woods and resorts to cannibalism in order to survive. They then start mutating into some sort of yeti-like creature that is the wendigo.

I also heard of some sort of shamanistic rituals in which participants must eat a chunk of human flesh. If he manages to consume it succesfully, He is a shaman. If he vomits it then he is doomed to become a wendigo.

There is also another variation of the lore in which the wendigo is a vigilante spirit that attacks evil people by pulling them by the hair from behind and forcing them to run in place until their feet light on fire.

No one knows how he looks like because according to the legend he is so terrifying that whoever looks at him will die from shock. But some say he's supposed to look like bigfoot only more demonic(horns, fangs etc.). In fact he is sometimes linked to bigfoot because of the huge bloody footprints he leaves behind.

Another interesting tidbit: Old local legends of lumberjacks of Wisconsin and Canada tell of a similar creature known as the "hidebehind". Anyone else heard of it?

I love those books. I grew up with them. In fact I was deathly afraid of the story 'The Haunted House' because of the artwork of the haunt. I just got over that a few years ago! He is one of my favorite artists...really captures the fear and eerie presence of those old legends.

Anyway, onto the Wendigo; enough nostalgia.

I heard this story that a couple had a child, and they saw the Wendigo the night it was born and this was a bad omen. I'm vague on memory, so don't quote me on this.
