If a scientist found out there was a god would they tell anyone???
a weird thing just kinda popped up into my head if a scientist found out there was a god would they tell anyone because that would be disproving everything they believed, but would god show himself to the scientist in the first place???

This should be in my god can beat the shit out of your god. And I would believe so, because he would ahve reached that concluion through scientific method. In which case he would be estatic to display the "discovery" of eternity.

A more intersting question would be if a devout Christian discovered there was no God. Do you think they would tell anyone?

no, its so psychologically ingrained in their mind that the only way they could accept that god doesnt exist is if god himself told them so. if they want to be ignorant to reality thats their business, it doesnt harm me and helps them live day to day so i say more power to them.

Nice answer. I see that you are probably one of the few people that actually THINK around here.
The final irony in life is death...

Re: If a scientist found out there was a god would they tell anyone???
What's ironic about death besides the fact that people live their lives trying to gather as much material goods as they can and judge eachother based on those material goods and yet in death they can't take any of it with them?

That says nothing for what they believed in though. I find it ironic that they use the scientific process to prove and disprove claims left and right and won't accept anything you tell them until it can be verified through the process, but their very religious beliefs are notoriously unscientific and have no testable hypothesis.

Re: If a scientist found out there was a god would they tell anyone???
Of course a scientist would report it. You can't be much of a scientist if you're not open minded. But the problem is, searching for physical proof of God's existence is blasphemy. The God that can be proven to exist is not the True God.

Re: If a scientist found out there was a god would they tell anyone???
If you were a scientist and you spent your life researching things that all depended on there being no God would you come foreward with this and ruin not only your life's work but everything you thought you have done advance the world? Alot of paliantologists (spelled wrong) altered fossils to coincide with what they theorized what they would be. I think they could do the same thing here(not to steriotype scientists). It would depend alot on the person. Maybe having proof of a divine entity would turn the heart of even the most dishonest person. Maybe not.

That's not really true. You have to take into account the fact that for much of history the only place to get a decent education was with the church. [This message has been edited by Lysander (edited 10-14-2002).]

That's what's called a self-affirming delusion.
