Whilst having a good think last night i started asking myself questions on ownership and one of them was "who owns the moon"

I know this is far fetched - what if a alien army convoy headed for our planet and we had say a year to stop it would nasa be able to interfere with your acre and build a army complex on it ? would they have the rights to overwrite your land ? Probably because america think they can do whatever they like ! but still its a thought that is making me think alot harder.

I dont know if this is the same guy but a man in Rio Vista california just north of me started this trend of selling real estate on the moon. he gets like 20 bucks a parcel. isnt that fucking insane?

I think that when Space Colonisation becomes a fad, there shall be international meetings to decide more precisely the fate of our galaxy. This means that the world will probably reject the old treaties conserning space ownership and start claiming stars/moon depending on the number of inhabitans and the size of buildings a nation succeded on placing on such particular planet.

For example, if the Americans built a 10 X 10 kms area populated with 100 people, then the international comitee will grant them a certain radius around the colony which shall be a territory of the United States.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what is going to happen in the future, but I consider this as the most reasonable solution conserning unclaimed territories in the outter space.

Theres always that theory that nobody landed on the moon. It was told of to boost americas hope for the future.

As for now nobody actually owns the moon. There is one company that sells what they call "moon real estate" but thats bullshit, its a company run by NASA and they sell mineral rights to certain areas on the moon. You can't actually build on your land even if you did own it because it is supposed to be owned by everyone and at the same time by no-one. For instance if you built your nice little retirement log cabin up on the moon then every person on the planet is well within their rights to evict you but because you are supposed to own it as well you can fight back to protect your rights.

i believe Americans could have easily crash-landed on the surface of the moon using 60's technology... i just doubt they could have engineered a means for taking off again.

It only has to get back up to the main part of the space craft, then they drop it or whatever, and go back to the earth with the resupply module. actually, the north pole is sectioned off, because the US Airforce has a base up there for when the Cold war was up and about. And Antarctica is the bottom side, it's sectioned off too

First of all, if I may, man has never been to the moon. I may be killed for revealing some of the facts that I'm about to put forth.
Not only has man never been there, but the US Gov't has been aware the the Moon is 'man made' for fifty years. Our Moon is a base for the 'Gods' that have visited our planet from day one. The side that we don't see is where they take off and land into the core of the moon. Why do you think that only one side of the moon faces Earth? It's not natural...that's why. All of our 'Gods', from all religions, are the same people that seeded our planet 35000 years ago. That 'Missing Link' is nothing more than an advanced civilization genetically altering primitive man to what he has become. The moon is their base. I believe they said they used Mars as well, but I'm not sure.

Look at past colonization situations in history. The same will happen with the moon. We will plant folks on there from various countries, all of them intelectualls before your everyday guy or gal. Eventually, there will be so many people there that it will be a small population. There will be set rules and regulations by the U.N. that some/most colonists will disagree with and eventually rebellion will occur. Rebellion occurs in almost everything left alone and if we put people on the moon and leave them to themselves YET making them abide our rules, just or unjust, they will rebel and we will all have a galactic war on our hands. And if we're lucky every single one of us will get blown to bits for our own stupidity. It's mankinds nature to destroy ourselves.
