If they were going even 60, 200 feet from the end: it could have been fucked up.

A rich kid would surely have flown enough to have seen all the shitty junk at the ends of runways. How many have any stuff worth driving a sports car on there?

What was the general speculation on the driver's fuck-up? Do you think he'd ever flown over/into that airport? At 200'+/sec, I can imagine that if there was a 2nd car he was paying attention to? He just might have lost touch. 1/4 mile in 6 seconds...

^^^I assume he was going 160MPH at 3 am an outran his headlights. The fact that he braked for 3 seconds before flying off the end at 100+ mph seems to support this.
