Default What is the difference between Ketchup and Catsup?

Since I am from NZ, and most of NZ's television is stupid American BS, I am starting to hear "ketchup" and "catsup" quite a lot on TV.

What is the difference between the two? For I do not know.

Interesting fact: In Canada heinz ketchup is made with real sugar, making it taste much better than the high fructose corn syrup variety.

"Catsup" is what you feed your cat, whereas "Ketchup" helps you "ketch up" with the hidden inner deliciousness of the food you find it applicable to.

If there was some way to "corner" the market on ketchup & be the Man as far as ketchup goes? To have to have people pay your price if they wanted it?

You might just be one of the coolest guys ever!

Girl1: "He's the Ketchup Man!" :D

Girl2: "EEK! I'm wet! I want him!"

I probably think more about potatoes & ketchup than I actually eat them. Just knowing that they are out there...somewhere...available...oh so eatable. That is very good to know & enough. Mmmmmm.

As an American I sincerely hope that the general impression you get of our society comes not from the television programming attempting to depict us.

Bummer. A fairly percentage of my countrymen are rather intelligent and hard-working individuals. Mad

Of course it can't be much worse than America's impression of the U.K. as a bunch of Queen-worshipping fish 'n chips eaters with bad teeth and a penchant for such words as "trousers" and "loo."

3/4 of NZ television are fuckin' My Super Sweet 16, shit like that. Annoying ugly bimbos whining about how they didn't get a Hummer for their birthday.

And other fuckin' homo reality shows that are on MTV.

We have MTV on SkyTV, but half of MTV's shows get played on the free-to-air channels.

It's bullshit.

The fish and chips/bad teeth/loo thing is true. The "Americans are dumbshits" thing is true. Stop trying to be patriotic, this country is a joke.

I'd like to add that most Americans don't even think of bad teeth and fish and chips when they think of the British they actually think of Victorianism and Harry Potter. No fucking joke.

In the USA, you are idolized, much like the Irish. Everyone loves you. American perception of Australia stems from what little exposure they have been given to your culture, namely Steve Irwin and the film "flipper". Typically they think of an extremely exotic atmosphere and a bunch of tanned white people. I will have you know that many Americans wonder "what the Australian language sounds like". I'm not happy living here, but what can I do, immigration is so god damned difficult if you're from the USA.

Seems like you deliberately put fairly instead of fair. How can you mistakenly put 2 extra characters (which aren't even close to each other on the keyboard) on the end of a word, making it have a different meaning? It appears that your error was orthographical.

Well Ketchup is Catsup. Ketchup is just a brand name for a product that is actually Catsup. Sort of like how Coke is a brand name for Cola. It's just that there arent very many other brands of catsup so everyone just thinks that its Ketchup.

I don't know if thats actually true though. Thats just what my sixth grade teacher told me...Confused

He obviously forgot to type the word 'large' or something to that effect between fairly and portion, dipshit. Now grow the fuck up.

I don't know about definitive differences, but I have noticed that 'catsup' is usually what you see on the labels of cheap, disgusting brands. Which isn't to say that cheap, disgusting brands are only labeled 'catsup', because I've seen 'ketchup' on just as many. However, I don't recall seeing 'catsup' on a good brand. I've also noticed that 'catsup' tends to be thinner and more watery, and tasting much more of vinegar than tomato.

I hear you, oh I hear you. US television being shown overseas is ruining both the US and the countries it's being shown in. Arguably most to the latter, as impressionable people and retards try to live their lives as they see characters living completely unrealistic lives on US shows. It leaves a horrible taste.

Luckily, there are some shows that portray Americans for who they actually are - and for the most part I'd have them round my house for a drink no worries.

P.S. We get all the UnZud immigration/highway patrol shows for some reason, so yes some of your stuff does make it back over the high seas to other realms. Oh and Beeaaached as bru.
