Default Nazi environmentalism

In what ways did Nazi Germany attempt to protect the environment and reduce the impact of human activity? Are there any areas in which they could have made their activities "greener"? Here are some ideas I've thought of, I'm interested in what your ideas are as well.

Environmental initiatives:

They made synthetic oil from coal using the Fischer-Tropsch process and even experimented with some biofuels.
The Nazis recycled Europe's surplus Jews and used their parts to make useful items like soap and lampshades.

Environmental oversights:

Although the "final solution" was necessary for the security and prosperity of Europe, the incinerators used to destroy Jew corpses contributed to global warming. This problem could be overcome through carbon sequestration or by purchasing carbon credits to offset the emissions created by burning Jews.

Synthetic oil and biofuels are hardly more environmentally 'friendly' than crude oil.

On a similar thing they had a huge anti-smoking campaign and Hitler offered big incentives to his officers to stop them smoking, OK not environmentalism but good for human health.

One of the largest producers of carbon dioxide is human respiration. On average 600 million tonnes of carbon dioxide is exhaled by the world human population.

Considering that Nazis believed about one sixth of the worlds population should die, that could save 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Ah, but those 1/6 would probably be replaced by tall, muscular Aryans right? With all that body mass, they'd have a higher basal metabolic rate, so more carbon dioxide.

Hitler clearly wasn't thinking long-term enough about the environment!

The jews and aryans would kill each other off, or the aryans would simply remove the jews, russians, asians and blacks. Problem solved?
