Rice works good, but I would suggest cooking a bunch at home, as it keeps for a long time. The following is something I sometimes like to eat at home... but it seems reasonably easy to make at work...

Yes, it will. Be careful that the water doesn't start boiling over the sides of the container... that happens to me all the time when I make rice in the microwave.
